About the position

The Senior Financial Analyst in FP&A at Cengage Group plays a crucial role in supporting the Finance team for the Cengage Academic US HED teams. This position involves forecasting, reporting, and variance analysis for prepub investments, maintaining key financial metrics, and providing financial and operational support to drive strategic value. The role requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage large data volumes while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly financial reporting tasks, quarterly forecasting, and annual planning activities.
  • Support the product team by compiling financial information to provide guidance on product profitability, historical trends, and adoption analysis.
  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for the Business Unit, providing actionable recommendations to leadership.
  • Collaborate with BU leadership to understand key operational drivers and their impact on financial performance.
  • Act as a liaison with Corporate FP&A and FP&A Center of Excellence, ensuring alignment on financial targets, forecasts, variance analysis, and reporting requirements.
  • Report and monitor actual and budget data with a focus on key business performance drivers.
  • Provide guidance with product setup and new copyright list support.
  • Participate in ad-hoc reporting, initiatives, and analysis.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate or Graduate degree in Accounting/Finance or Quantitative subject areas required.
  • 3+ years related experience in financial reporting, planning, forecasting, analysis, and month-end close.
  • Ability to adapt well to a fast-paced environment and constantly-evolving priorities and activities, exhibiting strong analytics and critical thinking skills.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office tools, specifically Excel, Access, and PowerPoint required.
  • Experience with PowerPivot, Tableau, Smartsheets, PowerBI, and other data visualization tools is a plus.
  • Experience with financial reporting and planning software and general ledger systems (JD Edwards, Hyperion Essbase - Smartview, Oracle Data Warehouse).
