About the position

The Sr. Financial Analyst - IT at Fifth Third Bank is a pivotal role responsible for executing highly complex financial analyses and driving business improvements across all key areas within the Bancorp. This position serves as a financial leader for all lines of business and affiliates, ensuring that the information needs required to sustain growth are met. The analyst will focus on providing value-added analysis and recommendations that support business growth while maintaining a strong emphasis on risk management. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks, ensuring that all actions align with the Bank's risk appetite and contribute to a positive customer experience. In this role, the Sr. Financial Analyst will lead peers in identifying key business factors that impact all lines of business, maintaining an up-to-date knowledge base on existing and emerging issues. The analyst will develop actionable recommendations and plans to support growth and mitigate risks. Responsibilities include preparing and analyzing monthly reports, investigating unusual items, and documenting improvements in report designs and processes. The analyst will also develop trend analyses and quantitative reports to determine business trends, manage documentation of financial plans, and establish strong working relationships with peers and management across the organization. The position involves active participation in process improvement initiatives and problem resolution, as well as leading the preparation and analysis of the annual profit plan and rolling forecasts. The analyst will analyze business performance, make recommendations for improvements, and measure progress based on outcomes. Close collaboration with CFOs to develop metrics and variance analysis of actual results is essential, along with assisting in the automation of data collection and analysis. Additionally, the Sr. Financial Analyst will provide training and guidance to less experienced analysts, allocate work, and review their outputs, ensuring that departmental objectives are met.

Responsibilities

  • Performs maintenance on existing schedules and reports for changes to information.
  • Documents, evaluates, and improves the design of reports and processes to ensure analytical tools evolve with business changes.
  • Develops trend analyses and other quantitative reports to determine business trends.
  • Manages the documentation of financial plans and analysis for meetings with senior management.
  • Establishes and maintains working relationships with peers and management within Bancorp Finance and all lines of business.
  • Attends meetings to maintain knowledge of current and emerging issues and risks.
  • Participates actively in process improvement and problem resolution.
  • Prepares and analyzes the annual profit plan and rolling forecast for all lines of business.
  • Analyzes business performance, makes recommendations for improvements, and measures progress based on outcomes.
  • Works closely with CFOs to develop metrics and variance analysis of actual results.
  • Assists with the development of presentations and discussion documents to highlight business issues and opportunities.
  • Creates and publishes graphic metrics to communicate business results and status.
  • Assists CFOs with the automation of data collection, analysis, and communication.
  • Provides training and guidance to less experienced analysts.
  • Allocates work and reviews the work of less experienced staff.
  • Works with staff to set and achieve department objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of seven years of accounting or finance-related experience in industry or public accounting.
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP strongly desired.
  • Proficient with MS-Windows and other related PC applications.
  • Desire and ability to learn mainframe applications and automated data analysis tools and techniques.
  • Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills necessary to interact with personnel ranging from clerical staff to senior management.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in performance measurement tools and technology.
  • Ability to work both individually and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to maintain professional composure in a dynamic work environment that often requires management/completion of multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and apply logical/critical thought processes.
