About the position

The Sr. Financial Analyst position offers an immediate opportunity for a skilled financial professional to oversee a variety of financial functions within a large Healthcare Insurance provider located in the Maryland area. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive financial support to the business, which includes responsibilities such as budgeting, auditing, forecasting, and detailed financial analysis. This role is pivotal in ensuring the financial health of the organization by managing cost accounting, revenue recognition, subcontractor financial management, and At Risk coordination. The analyst will also be responsible for developing forecasts, creating Estimates at Completion (EAC), conducting variance analysis, preparing and reviewing invoices, and managing cash flow, which includes timely unbilled analysis and reconciliations. In this position, the Sr. Financial Analyst will interface regularly with project managers, account managers, and business area directors, supporting large and/or complex projects. The role requires a proactive approach to financial reporting and analysis, with the analyst expected to produce various financial reports, analyze trends, and verify data accuracy. The analyst will also develop and manage a database for financial planning reporting, ensuring that all financial data is accurately calculated and presented. Responding to inquiries from managers, directors, and executives, the analyst will handle special requests and research complex accounting issues, communicating effectively with corporate management regarding accounting and financial processes as well as regulatory requirements. Additionally, the Sr. Financial Analyst will coordinate, review, and analyze major financial report submissions to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, laws, or guidelines. This involves gathering, compiling, and interpreting information collected through financial analyses to identify trends and provide valuable insights for decision-making. Although the position is primarily remote, the analyst will be required to attend quarterly meetings at the client’s location in Canton or Owings Mill, MD, making it essential for candidates to be local to accommodate these meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and produces various financial reports, analyzes trends, calculates and verifies data, and interfaces with other areas to develop reporting specifications, methods, and procedures.
  • Develops, coordinates, analyzes, and verifies data and financial reports to produce the financial Plan for all areas of the Company, creating and managing a database for Plan reporting.
  • Responds to manager, director, and executive inquiries, handles special requests, researches complex accounting issues, and prepares financial data for presentation to upper management.
  • Coordinates, reviews, and analyzes major financial report submissions to ensure corporate compliance with applicable regulations, laws, or guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in finance, accounting, or a similar field.
  • 5 years of experience in a finance, accounting, or analytical role within the finance sector or quantitative analysis.
  • General financial/accounting abilities including month-end closing, variances, large journal entries, budget, financial reporting, variance analysis, budget analysis, reconciliation, and understanding of financial statements.
  • Experience working with large dollar amounts (500K to 2M) and financial data sets from a larger organization.
  • Proficiency in Oracle E-Business Suite Financials is required.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills, including v-lookups, power pivots, and complex formulas, are required.
  • Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking, and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPA or MBA preferred.
  • Healthcare insurance industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficient with financial analysis software (i.e., Delphi Technology, Longview).
