About the position

The Senior FIPS 140 Security Engineer will join the Accredited Testing and Evaluation (AT&E) team, focusing on IT Security in support of National defense. This role involves working with products that facilitate secure communications for military applications in a cyber warfare environment. The position offers opportunities for hands-on experience in a lab setting, collaboration with industry experts, and a chance to contribute to national security efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Work with FIPS 140 requirements and ensure compliance in product development.
  • Utilize knowledge of cryptographic algorithms and security protocols in testing environments.
  • Build testing environments, perform testing, and report results through technical writing.
  • Collaborate with team members to maintain a work-life balance and promote health in the workplace.
  • Participate in industry-related conferences and seminars for professional development.

Requirements

  • BS degree in a relevant field.
  • 4 - 8 years of prior relevant experience in IT Security or related areas.
  • Knowledge of FIPS 140 requirements and cryptographic encryption algorithms.
  • Experience with programming languages such as C, C++, Python, or Java.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply security standard requirements to products.
  • Familiarity with common security protocols like SSH, IPsec, and TLS.
  • Experience in building testing environments and performing technical writing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with VHDL and Verilog languages.
  • Debugging experience using tools like GDB, WinDBG, or Visual Studio.
  • Statistical analysis experience of entropy sources.
  • Knowledge of OpenSSL and/or OpenPGP.
  • Experience in vulnerability analysis and penetration testing.
  • Strong knowledge of computer security principles and best practices.
  • Related certifications such as CCNA/CCNP/CCIE or JNCIA/JNCIS/JNCIP/JNCIE.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory and Linux systems.
  • Hands-on experience with tools like oscilloscopes and multimeters.
  • Familiarity with X.509 certificates and related protocols.
