About The Position

The Sr Freight Inspector at FedEx Freight Inc. is responsible for leading the inspection and investigation of shipment characteristics to ensure compliance with FedEx Freight rules and regulations, as well as the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC). This role involves reviewing shipment data, providing training, and collaborating with various departments to enhance freight analysis processes and revenue recovery.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of transportation experience in an operations environment, including two years performing freight inspection duties.
  • Clear understanding of the NMFC and Freight Analysis processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience using Transportation/Freight Management computer systems.
  • Ability to make decisions in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to climb in and out of trailers from ground level.
  • Ability to review basic data and make decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Freight Inspectors and review computer reports for shipments to ensure NMFC compliance and revenue recovery.
  • Provide inspection data research to the Pricing department regarding specific accounts.
  • Assist Freight Analysis leadership in educating Freight Analysis employees.
  • Communicate and implement Freight Analysis processes to management.
  • Support freight analysis by reviewing dimensional scan data and correcting revenue determinations as needed.
  • Initiate proactive measures with local management to reduce classification and reweigh corrections.
  • Provide training and support to FXF employees on NMFC, FXF Rules, and related processes.
  • Monitor and train Operations and Sales employees on weighing equipment accuracy.
  • Develop and present Freight Analysis updates in various meetings.
  • Create and track charts, graphs, and action plans related to freight analysis processes.
  • Promote Freight Analysis development through cross-functional interactions with sales and operations employees.
  • Collaborate with Claims Prevention and educate Operations on capacity load corrections.
  • Assist regional and district leadership as needed.
  • Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
