About the position

The Sr. GCP Engineer at General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) will play a crucial role in designing and implementing core Google Cloud Platform (GCP) infrastructure for the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This position involves collaborating with a team of engineers to create a multi-tenant environment that supports mission-critical workloads, ensuring seamless integration with partner systems and optimizing cloud usage costs. The role requires a strong understanding of cloud technologies and the ability to deliver comprehensive cloud architecture solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a team of DevOps/SecOps Engineers to architect GCP solutions ensuring cohesive integration with partner systems.
  • Provide cloud network design, engineering, and administrative support within a Multi-Cloud environment, focusing on GCP.
  • Support and advise on application assessment, migration, and modernization.
  • Analyze usage patterns to provide recommendations for optimizing cloud usage costs.
  • Create assessments for cloud deployment types, cloud tiers, OS, COTS, codebase, database, and application dependencies.
  • Design cloud infrastructure, virtual private cloud, virtual private network, relational database services, and computing resources.
  • Maintain an understanding of advancing cloud capabilities and propose cost and functional efficiency options.
  • Create and maintain a roadmap of customer enhancements based on decisions and directions.
  • Deliver end-to-end cloud architecture solutions and expertise in high availability and automated provisioning.
  • Collaborate with enterprise architecture teams to determine tools, technologies, and processes.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of IT or Cloud experience.
  • 3+ years of developing application architectures in GCP.
  • 3+ years of experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and infrastructure automation.
  • 2+ years of experience in GCP areas such as Networking, Organizational and Policy Management, and Log collection and integration.
  • Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to secure a Public Trust clearance.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Cloud Network Engineer certification from a cloud provider.
  • Familiarity with working in state or federal IT systems.
