About the position

As a Senior GIS Training Content Creator at Esri, you will leverage your GIS expertise, writing talent, and strong communication skills to contribute to a dynamic project team. This role is pivotal in designing, authoring, and updating educational materials aimed at teaching GIS concepts, skills, and workflows. You will work closely with the latest Esri software to develop both instructor-led and web-based training materials, ensuring that they are engaging and effective for adult learners. Staying current with Esri's latest technology and expanding your knowledge of the GIS industry will be essential to your success in this position. Your responsibilities will include designing courses that apply instructional design principles to foster student engagement and participation. You will also be tasked with building virtual machines (VMs) to support course development and delivery, as well as finding, verifying, and preparing course data for student exercises. Collaboration with team members on departmental and interdepartmental projects will be a key aspect of your role, allowing you to contribute to a variety of initiatives within the organization. This position requires a proactive approach, as you will need to explain complex concepts in understandable terms and create educational graphics using basic software applications. Your ability to work independently and as part of a team will be crucial, as will your exceptional communication, time management, and presentation skills. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field is required, along with significant experience in GIS applications and course development.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain instructor-led and web-based training materials using the latest Esri software.
  • Stay updated with Esri's latest technology and expand knowledge of the GIS industry.
  • Design courses applying instructional design and effective learning principles to engage students.
  • Build virtual machines (VMs) to support course development and delivery.
  • Find, verify, and prepare course data for student exercises.
  • Collaborate with team members on departmental and interdepartmental projects.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of GIS application experience.
  • 2+ years of experience working with ArcGIS Pro.
  • 2+ years of experience in course development or curriculum design.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong time management, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to explain complex concepts in understandable terms.
  • Ability to create graphics for educational purposes using basic software applications (SnagIt, PowerPoint).
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in geography, geoscience, biological science, computer science, education, or related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Exposure or experience with ArcGIS Enterprise and related web applications.
  • Knowledge of the instructional design process and the ADDIE model.
  • Experience with classroom and virtual classroom facilitation techniques.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Windows, Word, PowerPoint).
