About the position

The Sr. Governance Manager, Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) is responsible for ensuring strategic legal compliance in workplace health and safety across North America. This role involves designing, developing, and implementing assurance processes, engaging with various stakeholders, and managing legal compliance risks. The position requires effective communication and collaboration with senior leadership and legal teams to promote a culture of compliance and risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Define, apply, and defend health and safety legal requirements.
  • Operate in alignment with legal or regulatory requirements; test, remediate, and enhance risk management controls.
  • Engage cross-organizationally with leadership to design program controls and testing strategy.
  • Influence senior leadership to implement strategic and programmatic controls.
  • Define and apply risk tolerances; measure management and communicate health and safety legal risk.
  • Define organization level risk methodology and influence leadership in establishing organization level risk management.
  • Communicate and defend product, program, and organization level risk to regulators in partnership with legal teams.
  • Build risk management awareness within organizations and act as a risk management evangelist.
  • Maintain subject matter expertise and advise senior leadership on emerging trends and potential impacts.
  • Develop and deliver risk management training to senior leadership.
  • Conceptualize and drive implementation of cross-product technical risk management solutions.
  • Benchmark and research industry best practices; identify new tech solutions and vendors.
  • Establish and leverage industry partnerships to inform leadership of emerging trends.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of compliance, audit or risk management experience.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level.
  • Bachelor's Degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification.
  • Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles / Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements.
