The Sr. Grant Accountant at Brandeis University plays a crucial role in the Sponsored Programs Accounting department, ensuring compliance with sponsor regulations and safeguarding project funds. This position involves managing billing, collections, and budget resolutions while maintaining positive relationships with sponsoring agencies and university staff. Responsibilities

  • Perform grant related post-award functions according to sponsor terms and conditions, including budget and expense analysis, invoicing, financial reporting, and re-budgeting.
  • Ensure accurate recording of functions into the university accounting system in a timely manner.
  • Review current awards for proper assignment of fringe benefits and facility and administrative costs, ensuring correct start and end dates for each project.
  • Monitor accounts receivable balances and prepare invoices in a timely manner.
  • Follow up on cash collections and manage the grant closeout process, including billing, collection, reporting, and data recording.
  • Respond to department questions or requests for information, investigating problems and issues with grant data as needed.
  • Provide guidance to departmental staff on SPA grant management procedures and university policies.
  • Develop and offer viable alternative solutions to departmental issues and problems.
  • Update and maintain grant reporting schedules and communicate with SPA/PI/Departments regarding report status.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned by the SPA Manager and Director.

Requirements

  • B.A./B.S. required; M.A./M.S. preferred.
  • 5-8 years of finance, accounting, or grant administration experience, preferably in an academic or research environment.
  • Solid understanding of federal/University grant operations and knowledge of relevant sponsor regulations.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly analytical skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
