About the position

The Sr. Hardware Development Engineer for Core Components at Amazon is responsible for driving innovation in server hardware and software for AWS. This role involves solving complex problems, optimizing performance, reliability, and cost, and leading the development of next-generation CPU and Memory components. The engineer will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to design, validate, and troubleshoot systems at scale, while establishing technical standards and improving customer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Drive performance and reliability improvements in hardware used in Amazon servers spanning design, testing, manufacturing, and operations.
  • Utilize production telemetry and knowledge of component internals to drive hardware and software improvements.
  • Serve as the technical leader on demanding projects, including launching new services and features at scale.
  • Collaborate with thought leaders to define and drive critical features and architectural advancements into hardware.
  • Engage with customers and service teams to understand requirements and drive continuous improvement.
  • Guide suppliers to meet Amazon's server hardware needs through audits, modeling, testing, and engineering solutions.
  • Impact customers and the planet through improvements in server hardware reliability and performance.
  • Identify and rectify root causes of critical issues in system operations.
  • Provide technical guidance to multiple teams, enhancing their productivity and effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production.
  • Experience with project management of technical projects.
  • 3+ years of experience with statistical analysis and modeling for reliability, performance, and/or cost.
  • Experience with CPU architecture, RAS, DDR Memory technology, system performance, security, and troubleshooting.
  • Repeated success leading architecturally significant projects from inception through launch.
