About the position

The Sr Health & Safety Specialist at Thermo Fisher Scientific is responsible for maintaining environmental, health, and safety programs across multiple sites. This role involves monitoring compliance with safety metrics, conducting training and audits, and ensuring adherence to global occupational safety standards. The specialist will also manage hazardous waste disposal, support junior team members, and collaborate with management to enhance workplace safety and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain environmental, health and safety programs across multiple sites.
  • Assist management with monitoring environmental compliance and safety metrics.
  • Conduct compliance training, audits, and inspections to ensure adherence to safety standards.
  • Recommend corrective actions for identified hazards or risks.
  • Manage OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) sites and assist others in obtaining VPP Star designation.
  • Respond to inquiries and provide follow-up on health, safety, and environmental issues.
  • Ensure compliance with licensing, permitting, and other safety requirements at assigned sites.
  • Develop and update health and safety procedures to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor hazardous waste disposal and maintain waste manifest systems.
  • Conduct employee health and safety training programs and refresher trainings.
  • Perform regular walk-downs and self-assessments of facilities for OSHA compliance.
  • Collaborate with Worker's Compensation Administrator on related claims and investigations.
  • Lead Health & Safety committees and maintain safety equipment inventory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant qualification.
  • 5+ years of experience in health and safety roles.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other applicable regulations.
  • Firm understanding of worker's compensation and hazardous waste regulations.
  • Solid understanding of air monitoring strategies.
  • Strong presentation and training skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong judgment and business acumen.
  • Proficient computer skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with College of American Pathologists (CAP) inspection process.
