About the position

As a Senior Healthcare SQL Developer at Optum, you will play a crucial role in developing complex data sources and pipelines within our data platform. This position involves collaborating with business analysts and subject matter experts to implement and maintain intricate processes and calculations across various clients. You will leverage your extensive experience in data engineering to enhance health outcomes through innovative technology solutions.

Responsibilities

  • All phases of software engineering including requirements analysis, application design, code development, and testing
  • Design and implement product features in collaboration with business and IT stakeholders
  • Design reusable stored procedures, routines, and functions to perform complex transformations components
  • Lead technology decisions, drive product implementation and delivery
  • Troubleshoot production support issues post-deployment and determine solutions as required
  • Demonstrate substantial depth of knowledge and experience in Oracle PL/SQL, Unix, ETL tools
  • Manage code in Git/GitHub
  • Understand data requirements and design optimal pipelines to fulfill use-cases
  • Understand logical & physical data models to ensure data integrity is maintained
  • Tune and optimize data processes
  • Oversee code deployments to production environment, troubleshoot production data issues
  • Model large datasets to maximize performance for our Business Intelligence Team
  • Provide accurate and timely estimates for tasks
  • Provide support and leadership in critical production support issue resolution
  • Conduct or facilitate root cause analysis on all in-scope incidents and recommend a corrective action plan
  • Work with team to achieve timely resolution of all production issues meeting or exceeding Service Level Agreements
  • Conduct code reviews to ensure the work delivered by the team is of high-quality standards
  • Develop innovative approaches

Requirements

  • 8+ years of data engineering work experience developing, designing, testing and implementing of complex database programs
  • 8+ years of experience with Cloud environment, specifically Azure and Databricks
  • 8+ years of experience with T/SQL (writing complex queries, code optimization, etc.)
  • 8+ years of SDLC experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in a variety of data warehousing and business intelligence concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Proven analytical approach to problem solving
  • Demonstrated excellent knowledge of Snowflake - Architecture, Features, best practices
  • Analytical and problem-solving experience applied to large datasets
  • Proven data warehousing principles, architecture, and its implementation in large environments
  • Proven knowledge of different data modelling techniques such as Star Schema, Dimensional models, Data vault
  • Experience in code lifecycle management and repositories such as GIT & GitHub

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with Airflow
  • Experience developing optimized data models for visualization tools such as Tableau and PowerBI
  • Exposure and experience in other programming languages such as Python, Spark
  • Experience in BI Tools such as SSIS and ADF (Azure Data Factory)
  • Understanding of United States Healthcare data and applicable regulations
  • Proficiency in database design, querying, optimization & troubleshooting with RDBMS like Oracle, SQL Server, and/or Teradata
  • Experience writing and executing functional specifications
  • Experience working with and analyzing healthcare administrative, medical, or pharmacy claims data
