About the position

The role of the Sr. HR Generalist at Meijer is pivotal in providing comprehensive Human Resources support for assigned Corporate Departments. This position is integral to the creation, delivery, and implementation of Human Resource programs and services tailored to both corporate and retail organizations. As an HR leadership role, it emphasizes a customer-focused approach, ensuring that uncompromising customer service is delivered at all times. The Sr. HR Generalist will work closely with business partners to identify and assess their needs for employee and management development and training. This includes coordinating with various stakeholders to deliver cross-functional and on-the-job training, as well as collaborating with specialists to develop effective training interventions. Key responsibilities include conducting performance appraisals, facilitating feedback sessions, and leading competency development initiatives. In addition to training and development, the Sr. HR Generalist will collaborate with Talent Acquisition to develop and maintain entry-level rotational and internship programs. This involves partnering in recruiting, interviewing, and selection efforts for both exempt and non-exempt positions, as well as establishing relationships with select colleges and universities. The role also encompasses overseeing the onboarding program for new hires and working with leadership to devise effective talent acquisition strategies that enhance the attraction and retention of talent. The Sr. HR Generalist will conduct talent review meetings for roles up to the director level and facilitate career path planning discussions with management. This includes implementing corporate programs aimed at developing team members and leaders, such as mentoring and specialized training programs. The role also involves facilitating team-building sessions to enhance collaboration and conflict resolution skills within teams. Employee relations is another critical aspect of this position, where the Sr. HR Generalist will oversee investigations, corrective actions, and employee complaints, as well as attend grievance meetings and arbitration. Establishing HR metrics to help business partners understand HR-related topics that support business results is essential. Compliance with employment regulations, such as I-9s and wage and hour laws, is also a key responsibility, along with ensuring the implementation and monitoring of company policies and programs. The Sr. HR Generalist will partner with leadership to maintain an organizational design structure that supports appropriate management levels and development opportunities. Additionally, the role will direct change management initiatives, fostering awareness and accountability for change within the organization. Acting as a liaison to business partners and Corporate Total Rewards, the Sr. HR Generalist will address compensation and benefit issues while developing and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders in corporate functions and Corporate HR to ensure alignment of HR strategies with business initiatives.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or Business preferred, or related work experience.
  • 3 - 5 years of Human Resources experience, including previous leadership/management experience.
  • Project Management experience in developing HR metrics and retention strategies.
  • Experience deploying workforce planning systems including talent management and succession planning.
  • Organizational development and change management experience.
  • Previous Case Management experience including corrective action processes and conflict mediation.
  • Ability to present thought leadership and take initiative.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to facilitate discussions in various forums including formal presentations and informal discussions.
  • Demonstrated ability to design effective meetings and small group interactions.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and HR systems.
