Shearer's is a leading contract manufacturer and private label supplier in the snack industry in North America, headquartered in Massillon, Ohio. The company operates 17 state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities across various locations, including Texas, Arkansas, Arizona, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Iowa, Ontario, and Alberta, Canada. Among these facilities is one of the industry's first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) platinum certified facilities, located in Massillon, Ohio. Shearer's is renowned for producing high-quality snacks in a variety of flavors and sizes, including kettle-cooked potato chips, traditional potato chips, tortilla chips, cheese curls, corn chips, cookies, crackers, and wafers. The Sr. Human Resources Generalist position is based at the Newport Plant in Newport, Arkansas. This role involves administering various human resource plans and procedures for all employees, assisting in the development and implementation of personnel policies, and maintaining the employee handbook and policies manual. The Generalist will also manage leave of absence programs, process applicable paperwork, and handle disability claims as needed. Additionally, the role includes developing and maintaining the affirmative action program, filing the EEO-1 report annually, and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment. The Sr. Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for employee relations counseling, outplacement counseling, and conducting exit interviews. They will evaluate reports and results in relation to established goals and recommend new approaches to improve departmental efficiency. The position also requires facilitating training on HR-related topics and responding to the Department of Labor regarding unemployment information requests. The Generalist will drive an engaged culture through positive interactions with the workforce, manage headcount, and execute staffing strategies that align with business needs. They will work closely with Operations Leaders to develop effective onboarding programs and lead employee involvement teams focused on retention and recognition. Compliance with regulatory requirements such as FMLA, ADA, and FLSA is essential, as is overseeing administrative processes related to data management, compensation, benefits administration, and leave management.

Responsibilities

  • Administers various human resource plans and procedures for all employees.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures.
  • Prepares and maintains employee handbook and policies and procedures manual.
  • Administers leave of absence programs and processes applicable paperwork and disability claims.
  • Develops and maintains affirmative action program and files EEO-1 report annually.
  • Handles employee relations counseling, outplacement counseling, and exit interviewing.
  • Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions, and results of department in relation to established goals.
  • Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to improve departmental efficiency.
  • Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment.
  • Facilitates training on HR-related topics.
  • Responds to the Department of Labor regarding unemployment information requests.
  • Assists on special projects as requested.
  • Communicates, interprets, and enforces all company policies and practices applicable to the site.
  • Manages headcount and executes staffing strategy that supports business needs.
  • Works with Operations Leaders to develop effective new hire onboarding programs.
  • Leads Retention and Rewards and Recognition Employee Involvement Teams.
  • Oversees all corrective actions/discipline to ensure compliance with company policy.
  • Oversees administrative processes around data management, including new hire setup and associate information management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or 5 years of experience as a Human Resource Generalist.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Human Resources work experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with all levels of employees and management.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including EEO, ADA, and FMLA.
  • Strong drive for results to lead and facilitate efforts ensuring HR alignment with the company.
  • Experience with HRIS systems, preferably ADP.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal directly with line management and hourly workforce to build consensus and establish trust.
  • Strong project management and customer service skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities and work in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
  • Ability to lead with empathy.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a unionized environment.
  • Certification in Human Resources (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP).
