About the position

The Human Resources & Labor Relations role at General Motors focuses primarily on labor relations, with a significant emphasis on fostering effective workplace relationships and supporting union negotiations. The successful candidate will lead HR activities, enhance employee engagement, and ensure compliance with labor agreements while also addressing core HR functions to support employees and management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead assigned business functions in day-to-day HR and Labor Relations activities.
  • Encourage an effective, inclusive work environment and build strong relationships with operations partners, Union representatives, and HR colleagues.
  • Coordinate and assist in UAW contract negotiations and administration of collective bargaining agreements.
  • Investigate and prepare responses to grievances.
  • Administer compensation consistent with union agreements.
  • Support skilled and subsystems recruiting and hiring efforts.
  • Lead HR efforts related to investigations, governmental inquiries, grievance resolution, and performance management.
  • Coach and educate salaried operations partners on HR policies and processes.
  • Interpret data to identify business needs and develop solutions.
  • Track and report on labor planning data and strategies.
  • Support programs that contribute to the work environment, such as DEI and recognition programs.
  • Create a high-touch HR experience for employees.
  • Communicate HR policies and provide guidance to employees and management.
  • Maintain knowledge of legal requirements related to employee management and ensure compliance.
  • Work closely with employees and managers to improve work relationships and retention.
  • Provide talent and performance management guidance to leaders.
  • Support onboarding and conduct exit interviews to analyze attrition data.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on employee compensation matters and continuous improvement opportunities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of related manufacturing experience, preferably in a unionized organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in facilitation, negotiations, and conflict resolution.
  • Proven ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly proficient in HR Systems and computer software applications (e.g., Workday, Excel, Kronos).
  • Proficient in data analysis and strong Microsoft Excel skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Workday experience preferred.
  • Previous Labor Relations experience as an HR Business Partner is preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree in labor relations, human resources, or a similar field is preferred.
