About the position

The Sr. Human Resources Generalist at Precision Castparts Corp. (PCC) serves as a primary contact for employees regarding labor and benefit-related issues. This role is crucial in managing performance management programs and overseeing the recruitment and retention of employees within the NHD division. The Generalist will participate in various Human Resources initiatives and act as a backup to the HR Manager, ensuring that the HR functions align with the company's strategic goals. In this position, the Generalist will provide interpretations of contracts and administer the provisions of collective bargaining agreements in Hartford and Dunkirk. This includes leading investigations of complaints, processing grievances, preparing for arbitration cases, and chairing labor management meetings. The role also involves preparing information and making recommendations for labor contract negotiations, as well as advising on performance management, terminations, career development, and other personnel issues. The Generalist will act as a business partner for managers and supervisors, providing counseling and support in employer/employee relations and the interpretation of employment practices. They will investigate and respond to allegations of harassment or work environment issues, ensuring that company policies are communicated effectively to facilitate a common understanding among employees. Additionally, the Generalist will administer various employee benefit programs, including health insurance, disability insurance, life insurance, and employee assistance programs. They will also be responsible for implementing new benefit programs, conducting employee information sessions, and maintaining HR data in the information system. The role includes recruiting, screening, and hiring employees, facilitating new hire orientations, and preparing affirmative action and EEO reports. The Sr. Human Resources Generalist will also coordinate training from external sources, participate in HR initiatives, and publish periodic reports on overtime and headcount. Monthly travel to Dunkirk, NY is required to support operations, and the Generalist will be involved in planning inclusion events to enhance workforce diversity.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary contact for employees on labor and benefit-related issues.
  • Administer the provisions of collective bargaining agreements in Hartford and Dunkirk.
  • Lead investigations of complaints and grievance processing through arbitration preparation.
  • Participate in labor contract negotiations and make recommendations based on analysis.
  • Advise on performance management, terminations, and employee relations issues.
  • Investigate and respond to allegations of harassment or work environment issues.
  • Administer various employee benefit programs, including health insurance and life insurance.
  • Conduct employee information presentations and new hire orientations.
  • Maintain HR data in the information system, including benefit enrollments and changes.
  • Recruit, screen, and hire employees, coordinating internal postings for non-bargaining jobs.
  • Prepare and revise job descriptions as needed for all classes of employees.
  • Process and track employment applications and assist in employment activities.
  • Prepare AAP and EEO reports and learn payroll functions to support payroll staff.
  • Coordinate and plan inclusion events to engage the workforce in diversity initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Labor, Industrial Relations, Business or related field.
  • 5 to 7 years of generalist experience including benefits, labor relations, recruiting, and employee relations.
  • Ability to interpret and administer terms and conditions of collective bargaining agreements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and achieve results through others.
  • Knowledge of company and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
  • Effective communication skills with employees regarding benefits and HR policies.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Access, Word) and Oracle applications.
  • Knowledge of benefits practices and procedures, including COBRA, FMLA, and HIPAA.
