About the position

The Sr IC Layout Design Engineer collaborates with integrated circuit designers and chip leads to create and optimize chip floor plans, focusing on power distribution, pad location strategies, and high-quality mixed signal and analog layouts. This role requires a strong background in IC layout design and the ability to work on complex projects involving various technology nodes.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with IC designers and chip leads to establish chip floor plans, including power and ground distribution strategies.
  • Accurately estimate layout work schedules and identify areas requiring early investigation.
  • Perform custom mixed signal and analog circuit block layouts, optimizing for matching and minimizing parasitic capacitance.
  • Conduct design rule checking (DRC), electrical rule checking (ERC), and layout versus schematic (LVS) checks, resolving any errors.
  • Execute top-level layout integration with electrostatic discharge structures and pad assembly, ensuring successful final tape out (e.g., density fill, manufacturability checks, GDS/OASIS delivery to the foundry).
  • Generate guides and demonstrations to improve team layout techniques.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering
  • 5+ years of professional experience as an IC layout designer OR 8+ years of experience in integrated circuit layout design
  • Strong analog layout skills
  • Experience integrating analog blocks with digital macro blocks
  • Experience with planar IC layouts at 65nm, 90nm, 130nm, 180nm nodes
  • Layout experience for circuits with frequencies up to 3GHz
  • Experience in layouts of sensitive blocks (e.g., current mirrors, amplifiers, bandgap references, voltage-controlled oscillators, ADCs, PLLs)
  • Knowledge of Deep N-well, substrate tapping, guard rings, seal rings, and ESD protection devices
  • Understanding of layout considerations for device matching, coupling, and noise isolation
  • Working knowledge of Linux

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cryogenic temperature devices
  • Skill programming proficiency
  • Shell scripting experience (e.g., Perl, Python)
  • Experience managing revision control systems
  • Circuit design experience
