About the position

The Senior Indirect Tax Manager will play a crucial role in Amazon's International Indirect Tax (ITX) controllership team, focusing on transforming tax controllership processes through technology and automation. This position involves managing indirect tax risks, improving governance frameworks, and collaborating on cross-functional projects to enhance compliance and efficiency in tax operations.

Responsibilities

  • Implement strategies to improve controls and reduce indirect tax risk.
  • Define, implement, test, and continuously improve the governance and control framework for indirect tax risk mitigation.
  • Perform systems and process assurance reviews to identify gaps and associated indirect tax risks.
  • Work with systems and process owners to design actions to close identified gaps and define governance and controls.
  • Support major cross-functional project launches from scoping through testing and launch.
  • Provide internal and external audit support.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of tax, finance, or a related analytical field experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in indirect tax (VAT, GST) with a public accounting firm, major law firm, or in industry.
  • Project management skills/experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Preferred CIMA, ACCA, ACA, AAT or similar credentials.
  • Experience of indirect tax compliance or indirect tax inspector in European jurisdictions.
  • Second language (e.g. German, French or Spanish) advantageous.
  • Significant experience with tax controllership in an advisory capacity and/or a controllership environment.
  • Confident MS Excel user.
  • Experience working with globally diverse teams.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, informal, and often ambiguous environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Takes ownership and responsibility for work under minimal supervision.
  • Organized, analytical, and methodical with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively on milestone-driven projects.
  • Strong desire to exceed expectations.
