About the position

The Sr. Industrial Engineer for Continuous Improvement at FreshDirect will play a pivotal role in enhancing operational efficiency and effectiveness within the organization. The selected candidate will be tasked with identifying and implementing process improvements and scheduling optimizations that align with the company's operational goals. Utilizing advanced data analytics and modeling techniques, the engineer will pinpoint opportunities for process optimization and cost reduction, ensuring that the operations run smoothly and efficiently. A key responsibility will be the development and implementation of scheduling algorithms and methodologies aimed at optimizing distribution schedules. The engineer will demonstrate a strong knowledge of continuous improvement principles and apply a comprehensive toolkit to drive these initiatives. Compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) will be a critical aspect of the role, as will supporting various plant and transport project improvement initiatives. The engineer will lead and drive the change process, collaborating with partners and subject matter experts (SMEs) to identify and resolve any concerns related to processes and systems. As the operations representative for system change management, the engineer must be flexible and available during critical times, particularly during project rollouts and peak operational periods. In addition to designing and implementing efficient solutions that enhance capacity, productivity, quality, and service, the engineer will collect and analyze data to quantify and validate process improvements. Managing projects from inception to completion, including cost justification, project planning, execution, training, and go-live support, will be essential to the role.

Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and cost reduction using data analytics and modeling techniques.
  • Develop and implement scheduling algorithms and methodologies to optimize distribution schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Support plant and transport project improvement initiatives.
  • Lead and drive the change process within operations.
  • Collaborate with partners and subject matter experts to resolve process and system concerns.
  • Act as the operations representative for system change management.
  • Design and implement efficient solutions related to capacity, productivity, quality, and service.
  • Collect and analyze data to quantify and validate process improvements.
  • Manage projects from start to finish, including cost justification, project planning, execution, training, and go-live support.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in industrial engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years' experience in operations, logistics, warehousing, or manufacturing.
  • 2+ years' experience in data analysis and SQL.
  • Ability to work well with cross-functional teams and lead individuals who are not direct reports.
  • Comfortable juggling and coordinating multiple projects across several channels simultaneously.
  • Able to write for and work with a wide range of audiences, from executives to line workers.
  • Enjoy operating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment under time constraints.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5+ years' experience in operations, logistics, warehousing, or manufacturing.
  • Experience working in a union environment.
  • Experience working with an automated system.
  • Hands-on experience with WMS and SAP.
