About the position

The Industrial Engineer - Senior will play a crucial role in planning and overseeing the layout of equipment, office, and production facilities within the automotive sector. This position is based onsite in Detroit and requires a strong background in vehicle engineering, particularly in body-in-white or chassis development. The successful candidate will conduct studies in operations to maximize workflow and spatial utilization, ensuring facility efficiency and workplace safety. This role involves performing cycle time and bottleneck analyses, developing and improving work methods, and collaborating with functional and operation managers to enhance productivity, quality, and throughput. Additionally, the Industrial Engineer will support World Class Manufacturing (WCM) initiatives, particularly focusing on the Workplace Organization (WO) and Logistics (LO) pillars. The role includes assisting the IE Manager with various Industrial Engineering and WCM-related assignments and projects. The engineer will also be responsible for client planning, leveling, and adjustments in response to assembly plant volume changes. Conducting Direct Labor, Indirect Labor, and Ergonomic Studies is also a key responsibility. Daily interaction with production management and union leadership regarding staffing requirements and IE activities is expected, making strong communication skills essential for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and oversee layout of equipment, office, and production facilities.
  • Conduct studies in operations to maximize workflow and spatial utilization.
  • Ensure facility efficiency and workplace safety.
  • Perform cycle time and bottleneck analyses.
  • Develop and improve work methods.
  • Work with functional managers and operation managers to improve productivity, quality, and throughput.
  • Support World Class Manufacturing (WCM) initiatives, especially for Workplace Organization (WO) and Logistics (LO) pillars.
  • Assist IE Manager in various Industrial Engineering and WCM-related assignments and projects.
  • Perform client planning, leveling, and adjustments per assembly plants' volume adjustments.
  • Conduct Direct Labor, Indirect Labor, and Ergonomic Studies.
  • Interact with production management and union leadership on staffing requirements and IE activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Industrial Engineering experience in automotive assembly in a high-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with time/motion studies, development of standardized work and standard data.
  • Ability to apply strong principles and analytical techniques to continuously improve the manufacturing process.
  • Practical knowledge and understanding of traditional lean manufacturing systems.
  • Knowledge of MODAPTS.
  • Ability to interface with all levels of the organization from shop floor to management.
  • Must be self-motivated.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Microsoft Office experience.
  • Must be available to work any shift and overtime.
