About the position

Butterball, LLC, one of America's most iconic brands, is seeking a Senior Instructional Designer to join our team in the Raleigh-Durham area of North Carolina. This role is pivotal in supporting the instructional design of courses that facilitate the successful implementation of technical projects, particularly in relation to our major system upgrades, including the transition from our current ERP SAP system to S/4 HANA and the implementation of a new Human Capital Management (HCM) system. The Senior Instructional Designer will be responsible for creating new training documents and modules, as well as reworking existing vendor-created training materials to ensure effective learning outcomes and goals are met. In this position, the Senior Instructional Designer will act as a liaison between the change management team, external project management teams, subject matter experts (SMEs), and other key partners. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders to assess specific training needs and develop a comprehensive curriculum design that considers role-based course requirements. The designer will draft course outlines that include learning outcomes and goals tailored to the end-user job roles and tasks, ensuring that all training materials are developed in accordance with established adult learning principles. The Senior Instructional Designer will also conduct Train-the-Trainer sessions, ensuring that trainers are confident and capable of delivering the training material effectively. This position may involve creating eLearning courseware and utilizing various authoring tools to develop training materials. Additionally, the designer will be responsible for publishing and distributing training content through our learning management systems, creating ongoing training plans for new hires, and providing refresher training for existing users. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, an in-depth understanding of instructional design models, and the ability to foster collaborative working relationships with partners and SMEs.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with partners to assess their specific training needs in support of technical and technology-related projects.
  • Partners with change management team and project team on an overall curriculum design including considering role-based course curriculum.
  • Drafts course outlines including learning outcomes and goals based on the end user job roles and tasks.
  • Develops all training materials to fulfill on course outlines, including facilitator guides and presentations, exercises and scenarios, participant guides, quick reference guides, one-point lessons, and job aids.
  • Creates new training documents and modules as well as re-working existing vendor created training materials to facilitate successful learning outcomes and goals.
  • Works with subject matter experts to understand content of training from an end user perspective.
  • Conducts Train-the-Trainer sessions and works with trainers to ensure they are confident and capable delivering training material.
  • Conducts training sessions, webinars, and workshops when needed.
  • May create eLearning courseware.
  • Works with task recorders and other authoring tools to create materials.
  • Works with translators to ensure training material is translated accurately, if needed.
  • Collaborates with SMEs, business process owners, and vendor partners to ensure appropriate training materials are developed in accordance with established adult learning principles.
  • Creates an ongoing new hire/sustainability training plan for new users and refresher training for existing users.
  • Publishes and distributes training materials and content through our learning management systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in adult education, learning science, instructional design, educational technology, technical writing, training development, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant instructional design experience or the knowledge, skills, and abilities to succeed in the role.
  • Experience with online learning, learning design for mobile, designing and storyboarding for a wide variety of formats and audiences.
  • In-depth understanding of instructional design models and learning theories.
  • Knowledge of modern training techniques and tools in technical subjects.
  • Advanced technical skills in e-learning and mobile training and proficiency in industry-standard authoring tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the proven ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external partners.
  • Clear and effective curriculum-planning skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, etc.) and Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).

Nice-to-haves

  • Preferred bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Learning Management Systems (LMS) and/or online learning system experience.
  • Certification such as CTT+ (Certified Technical Trainer).
