About the position

The Senior Instructional Designer at the University of Miami is responsible for planning and implementing engaging learning activities and course content tailored to meet the needs of a specific audience. This role also involves leading and providing guidance to lower-level instructional designers, ensuring the development of effective instructional materials and methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Work with subject matter experts to conduct needs assessments and identify new development needs.
  • Design and create engaging learning activities and course content that enhances retention and transfer.
  • Identify methodologies for delivering curated content.
  • Research and evaluate new and emerging technologies for instructional opportunities.
  • State instructional end goals and create content that aligns with them.
  • Visualize instructional graphics, user interfaces, and finished products.
  • Determine context of aesthetics, placement, and frequency of tools to enhance learner experience.
  • Conduct instructional research and analysis on learners and contexts.
  • Apply tested instructional design theories, practices, and methods.
  • Provide exercises and activities that enhance the learning process.
  • Create supporting materials/media such as audio, video, simulations, and games.
  • Determine criteria for judging learner performance and develop assessment instruments.
  • Evaluate instructional effectiveness.
  • Maintain project documentation and course folders.
  • Provide guidance and direction to lower-level instructional designers as needed.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum Development, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience, with a combination of education and experience considered.
