About the position

The Sr. Instrumentation and Controls Engineer will be part of the Automation, Controls and Electrical team within the Technical Expertise department at BASF. This role involves providing engineering expertise for various capital projects, including new chemical plants and major expansions. The engineer will collaborate with other engineers, project managers, and plant personnel to deliver complex engineering solutions, ensuring safety, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness in production processes.

Responsibilities

• Provide instrument & controls engineering expertise for small, mid & large capital projects.
• Work closely with other discipline engineers, project managers, and plant operations personnel.
• Provide technical direction for I&C engineers and designers during all project phases.
• Review design documentation and ensure designs interact effectively with manufacturing systems.
• Supervise the design, specification, application, installation, & testing of Safety Instrumented Systems.
• Demonstrate troubleshooting skills in instrumentation to diagnose I/O related issues.
• Maintain instrumentation, functional design specifications, and P&I diagrams.
• Design, implement, program, and commission PLCs, SIS, and BMS control systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience in similar positions.
• At least 3 years of experience working with Capital Projects.
• Strong communication skills in manufacturing technical discussions.
• Commitment to workplace safety and understanding of safety standards.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Fire & Gas, pressure, temperature, level, flow, and process analyzers measurement technology.
• Familiarity with industry standards such as ISA 84 or IEC 61508/11.
