About the position

Astronics Advanced Electronic Systems (AES) is seeking a Sr. Integration & Development Test Engineer - CONTRACTOR to join our cohesive team of professional problem solvers in Kirkland, WA. The primary objective of this role is to support environmental and electromagnetic interference testing of aircraft electrical power generation, conversion, and distribution equipment within the APC department. The engineer will be responsible for preparing and reviewing test procedures and reports, ensuring compliance with industry standards such as DO-160, MIL-STD-810, and MIL-STD-461. This position requires the development and review of test procedures for environmental and EMI tests on aircraft electrical power equipment, as well as generating test fixture designs to facilitate these tests. In this role, the engineer will prepare and review environmental and EMI test procedures, utilizing established guidelines for new aircraft electrical power equipment designs. They will perform tests and document results from lab testing, develop custom test equipment designs, and analyze a variety of EMI test-related technical problems. The engineer will also support environmental and EMI development testing, troubleshooting, and formal testing using both custom and standard lab test equipment. Additionally, they will prepare and present technical information to internal and external stakeholders, acting as an individual contributor while building stable working relationships internally. The engineer will guide technicians and operators in performing system integration and unit-level development tests, as well as in the construction of custom test equipment. This role is critical in ensuring the successful testing and integration of aircraft electrical power systems, contributing to the overall mission of Astronics in delivering innovative technology solutions to the aerospace and defense industries.

Responsibilities

  • Support environmental and electromagnetic interference testing of aircraft electrical power generation, conversion, and distribution equipment.
  • Prepare and review test procedures and reports for aircraft electrical power equipment.
  • Support DO-160, MIL-STD-810, and MIL-STD-461 testing on aerospace electrical power equipment.
  • Develop and review development and qualification test procedures for environmental and EMI tests.
  • Generate test fixture designs to support environmental and EMI tests of aircraft equipment.
  • Analyze and solve a diverse variety of EMI test related technical problems using test data and specifications.
  • Organize and analyze data and document results from lab testing.
  • Support environmental and EMI development testing, troubleshooting, and formal testing using custom test equipment.
  • Prepare and present technical information for internal and external engineers and program personnel.
  • Guide technicians and operators in performing system integration and unit level development tests.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of five years total in engineering experience; must have a minimum of 3 years in aerospace/aviation.
  • Experience with integrating and testing aircraft electrical power distribution, on aircraft and in lab settings.
  • Experience troubleshooting and monitoring a variety of serial data buses and avionics.
  • Experience with FAA Part 23 or 35 certification testing.
  • Knowledge of electrical wiring definition for aircraft and test equipment.
  • Proficiency in using PC controlled test equipment.
  • Experience with instrumentation and data logging equipment and sensors.
  • Proficient in MS Excel (charting, formulas), Word, PowerPoint, and 2D drawing packages.
  • Experience presenting information to internal groups and external customers.

Benefits

  • Competitive hourly wage ranging from $50.00 to $75.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications.
