About the position

As a Senior Interior Designer at DLR Group, you will play a pivotal role in leading design projects primarily within the K-12 and Education sectors. This position requires you to collaborate closely with an integrated design team, guiding projects from the initial pre-design and programming stages through to construction administration. The majority of your work will focus on educational facilities, with at least 75% of your projects falling within this category. Your responsibilities will include leading project design efforts, managing client interactions, and delivering compelling presentations that effectively communicate design concepts. In this role, you will be expected to mentor junior staff, fostering a collaborative work environment that emphasizes mutual respect, integration, learning, communication, and teamwork. You will engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including clients, contractors, vendors, and fellow DLR Group team members, to ensure the successful delivery of projects. Your ability to set a clear vision and direction for design presentations, material palettes, and project scope will be crucial to your success. The ideal candidate will possess strong creative design skills, including proficiency in drawing, graphic design, and oral presentation. You should also have a solid foundation in conceptual design thinking and 3D modeling capabilities. Your role will involve estimating project fees, determining the scope of work, and preparing proposals and contracts, all while maintaining strong client and time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on the design of projects from pre-design and programming through construction administration.
  • Lead project design efforts and manage client interactions and presentations.
  • Mentor younger staff and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Set a vision and direction for design concept presentations and material palettes.
  • Estimate fees, determine scope of work, and prepare proposals and contracts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture or equivalent.
  • 10-12 years of commercial design experience with expertise in Education (K-12 or Higher Ed).
  • Proficiency with Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency with SketchUp and some 3D rendering software.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a cross-disciplinary team atmosphere.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong leadership and team building skills.
