About the position

HKS is searching for a talented Sr. Interior Designer to join our Venues Interiors team. This position is for a recognized leader and certified Interior Designer who will be responsible for delivering exceptional design and delivery for clients, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a flexible attitude, and the ability to solve problems creatively while fostering and managing effective client relationships. This role involves making high-impact decisions and endorsing the firm's values by influencing client service, innovation, and communication. The Sr. Interior Designer will act as a subject matter expert for design solutions, guiding the team and clients through the design process.

Responsibilities

  • Leads team in planning work and developing solutions to technical and design detail problems
  • Builds and strengthens connections with clients through a comprehensive understanding of their project mission, goals, policies and needs
  • Leads development of interiors concepts based on client vision, desire and architectural concept
  • Utilizes creative thinking to achieve innovative solutions
  • Manages client's expectations, team communications and consultant coordination to meet overall project objectives
  • Prepares and reviews detailed implementation document sets (i.e., interior plans, fixture plans, elevations, details)
  • Supervises the preparation of design details and drawings by project team to maintain quality control with a focus on design
  • Generates project documents and schedules, manages the finances and keeps the project on schedule
  • Collaborates in the development of cost estimates for design proposals
  • Collaborates on all design phases including programming client needs, conceptual and schematic design, design development, document preparation and construction administration
  • Works with others through project phases to enhance the design by specializing in the FFandE sourcing, selection, custom design and specification
  • Attends on-site visits, field reviews and project meetings
  • Participates and may lead team meetings to discuss project issues, technical issues and coordination with other disciplines
  • Actively invests in the professional development of staff through mentoring, motivating, performance management and career planning
  • Develops, recognizes, recruits and grows diverse talent
  • Manages conflict effectively and encourages a healthy team environment
  • Collaborates in managing project to satisfy requirements from budget and schedule perspective

Requirements

  • Certified Interior Designer with a strong portfolio of completed projects
  • Proven experience in leading design teams and managing client relationships
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and creative thinking
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
  • Experience in preparing detailed implementation documents and design details
  • Knowledge of FFandE sourcing, selection, and specification
  • Experience in project management, including budgeting and scheduling

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in venue or hospitality design
  • Familiarity with sustainable design practices
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or SketchUp
  • Strong understanding of building codes and regulations
  • Ability to mentor junior designers
