About the position

The person in this leadership role is accountable for setting and executing the strategic direction for their areas of responsibility and integrating those strategies at the enterprise level. The Sr IT Director is responsible for overseeing infrastructure solutions, automation of infrastructure services, and efficient management of all third-parties, in addition to internally IT supported business processes across the enterprise. This role focuses on enabling data, digital, and technology capabilities across the organization, ensuring the effective management and maintenance of technology products and applications, and aligning IT initiatives with enterprise goals. Responsible for cultivating close and ongoing relationships with business partners to ensure alignment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides oversight for execution of business strategies supported by IT, including business and IT initiated projects to drive business results and continual service improvement.
  • Fosters a business-oriented culture and mindset driven by continual service improvement techniques.
  • Leads the development of all aspects of the IT strategy and roadmap and ensures its integration with the broader IT and enterprise strategic plans.
  • Works with business operations teams to ensure effective coordination of IT changes without impacting business processes.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with other IT and business leaders to develop a clear understanding of business needs.
  • Develops and controls the IT annual operating and capital expenditure budget for their areas of responsibility and manages expenses to stay within or below plan.
  • Participates in the assessment of external and internal technology capabilities with a focus on suitability for integration and support with the existing IT operations environment.
  • Develops and supports the IT sourcing strategy, and provides oversight for vendor and partner relationship management for their areas.
  • Maintains currency on new technologies and service management practices and provides direction on what emerging technologies and methods should be introduced, integrated, and assimilated.
  • Typically has direct responsibility for 5 or more distinct IT functions with a total staff of 50 or more, including external consultants.
  • Works closely with HR to execute the IT 'people strategy' that defines appropriate metrics and aligns with the business and IT strategy.
  • Works with the IT leadership team to forecast future skill needs to acquire and develop an IT workforce with the appropriate mix of business knowledge, technical skills, and competencies.
  • Provides leadership, coaching and direction to the IT management team and staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information systems, business administration or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Fifteen or more years of experience in IT.
  • Fifteen years of progressive leadership responsibilities.
  • Experience in effectively managing cross-functional teams, geographically dispersed teams (including remote workers), influencing key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing standard processes and managing performance to achieve key metrics, including budget tracking.
  • Proven experience or demonstrated capability in leading IT teams in complex and dynamic environments requiring 24/7 support.
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to communicate a vision that inspires and motivates IT staff.
  • Ability to instill confidence in the C-suite, GVPs, and VPs and contributes to the business value of IT.
  • Effective influencing and negotiation skills in an environment where resources may not be in direct control of this role.
  • Excellent vendor management and contract negotiation skill.
  • Excellent service management planning and execution skills.
  • Experience in budget planning and financial management for large IT budgets.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute a plan that ensures that the right people are in the right roles at the right time.
  • Strong vendor management and partner relation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
