About the position

The Senior Manager for Operational Support at DISH will lead a team responsible for middleware technologies and site reliability. This role requires a blend of strategic leadership and hands-on technical expertise to ensure the stability and performance of critical systems. The ideal candidate will drive innovation and continuous improvement within the team while managing middleware technologies and enhancing site reliability engineering practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to the operational support team.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor and develop team members to enhance their skills and capabilities.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure team effectiveness.
  • Oversee the configuration, deployment, and maintenance of middleware technologies including webMethods, GemFire, Apache Tomcat, Apache HTTPD, and Kafka.
  • Ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of middleware platforms.
  • Implement best practices for monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization of middleware systems.
  • Collaborate with development teams to design and implement scalable and efficient middleware solutions.
  • Lead efforts to enhance the reliability, availability, and performance of production systems.
  • Implement robust monitoring and alerting mechanisms using tools such as Logz.io and Dynatrace.
  • Drive incident management and resolution processes to minimize downtime and service disruptions.
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans for critical systems.
  • Work closely with other teams including development, infrastructure, and security to align operational objectives and priorities.
  • Participate in architecture reviews and contribute insights to optimize system design and performance.
  • Collaborate with vendors and external partners for contract renewals and to evaluate new technologies and solutions.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, optimization, and efficiency gains in middleware and site reliability operations.
  • Lead initiatives to streamline processes, reduce manual efforts, and enhance system resilience.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies related to middleware and site reliability engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Proven experience (6+ years) in managing middleware technologies such as webMethods, GemFire, Apache Tomcat, Apache HTTPD, and Kafka.
  • Strong background in site reliability engineering with expertise in monitoring, alerting, incident management, and disaster recovery.
  • Experience with Logz.io and Dynatrace or similar monitoring and observability tools.
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration platforms, with experience in Rancher being a plus.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, prioritizing tasks effectively and driving results.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive and collaborative approach to addressing technical challenges.
