About the position

The Senior Java Developer at SMBC Group is responsible for providing development support for the bank's enterprise-wide payment applications. This role involves designing, developing, and supporting both packaged and custom payment processing programs, ensuring they meet business requirements and technical specifications. The position requires extensive experience in the financial services industry and collaboration with project teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis and design of business requirements and specifications, preparing technical specification documents.
  • Collaborate with project team members to define and design project scope.
  • Participate in build-related activities, including environment setup and implementation schedules.
  • Analyze technical issues, suggesting workarounds or permanent solutions.
  • Assist in the implementation of system upgrades, enhancements, and new systems.
  • Identify system bottlenecks and conduct performance tuning and testing of applications.
  • Support and implement vendor applications, working closely with vendors.
  • Design, code, and unit test real-time, batch interfaces, and file transfer processes.
  • Develop web-based product projects and middleware interface development using the latest technologies.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in the financial services industry.
  • Demonstrated experience developing scalable enterprise-level Java/J2EE web applications, preferably on Websphere Application Server.
  • Experience in software analysis, code analysis, requirements analysis, and software review.
  • Proficiency in SQL and stored procedures; Oracle experience preferred.
  • Functional knowledge of frameworks such as JPA, Hibernate, Spring, RESTful Web Services.
  • Experience in developing on container frameworks such as Kubernetes or Open Shift.
  • Ability to write Shell scripts.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining GIS environments, networks, and clusters.
  • Ability to write efficient complex queries against large data sets using SQL Developer and TOAD.
  • Functional and operational knowledge of CHIPS, FEDWIRE, SWIFT, SEPA, ACH, and/or CLS.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
