About the position

WSP's Jacksonville team is expanding, and we are excited to offer a career opportunity for a Senior Lead Civil/Environmental Engineer. This role is ideal for individuals with a strong interest in site work, public infrastructure, and restoration projects, as well as a desire for career advancement. As part of our team, you will engage in a variety of civil and environmental engineering projects, including environmental remediation and restoration, parks and recreation, stormwater and drainage management, and sustainability initiatives. In this position, you will perform both office and fieldwork, contributing to the management of design and construction for infrastructure projects from inception to completion. Your responsibilities will include developing construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates, as well as preparing safety and phasing plans. You will coordinate with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients to ensure project success. As a leader, you will oversee project budgets, monitor external events, track hours and expenses, and supervise subcontractors to ensure satisfactory performance. Additionally, you will assist with the engineering review of permit applications and design plans, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. You will also engage with various public and private entities to address engineering and construction challenges, while supporting the development of a client base for civil and environmental engineering services. Mentoring staff and remaining current with the latest civil engineering techniques will be key aspects of your role. You will collaborate with professionals from various disciplines on federally, state, and locally funded projects, as well as business development opportunities. Upholding ethical decision-making and adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct will be essential in your daily responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform office work and fieldwork on civil and environmental engineering projects.
  • Develop construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Prepare construction safety and phasing plans, and update infrastructure layout plans.
  • Manage design and construction of infrastructure projects from inception to completion.
  • Lead civil engineering projects, ensuring contributors understand their roles and deadlines.
  • Prepare and oversee project budgets, monitor external events, and track hours and expenses.
  • Assist with engineering review of permit applications and design plans to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Meet with public or private entities to discuss engineering and construction challenges.
  • Support and develop a client base for civil/environmental engineering services.
  • Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.
  • Collaborate with professionals from various disciplines on improvement and development projects.
  • Exercise responsible decision-making regarding company funds and resources.

Requirements

  • BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • 10+ years of experience in engineering and civil design with public works, environmental, or water resources projects.
  • Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Highly proficient with civil engineering principles, practices, and design/build applications.
  • Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with technical writing and office automation.
  • Experience with discipline-specific design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS).
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and directing subcontractors.
