About the position

The Sr / Lead DevOps Engineer at Salesforce will play a crucial role in innovating and maintaining a distributed systems engineering platform that supports a vast user base. This position involves developing observability and telemetry services, collaborating with product owners and engineers to build new features, and ensuring the reliability and performance of the platform. The role requires a strong focus on engineering standards, tooling, and processes, as well as mentoring junior engineers and participating in on-call rotations to maintain operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Develop observability and telemetry services and tools.
• Collaborate with Product Owners and Engineers to conceptualize and build new features.
• Contribute to team projects that significantly impact the business.
• Own team features or systems and define their long-term health.
• Improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes.
• Create and maintain detailed documentation.
• Participate in the team's on-call rotation to address real-time problems.
• Design, develop, deploy, and enhance automation for observability platform infrastructure.
• Conduct code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and provide technical guidance.

Requirements

• A related technical degree required.
• 5+ years of professional development experience in a Cloud-based environment implementing DevOps best practices.
• 3+ years deploying distributed apps with containers (Docker) & orchestration (Kubernetes, EKS, GKE).
• 3+ years of proven ability working within and building on public cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• 3+ years of Linux system engineering experience.
• 5+ years of experience in programming languages (Java, Python, Golang).
• 3+ years experience with Maven/Gradle/Ant builds.
• 3+ years experience deploying with CI/CD orchestration services (Jenkins, Spinnaker).
• A continuous learner and a critical thinker.
• Excellent verbal communication and technical documentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, CloudWatch, Zabbix.
• Experience with Log Management and Analytics tools such as Splunk, Loki, Tableau, Grafana.
• Experience in open-source technologies like HBase, Hadoop, Kafka, Spark, Presto, Hive, Airflow.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with relational and non-relational databases (Postgres/Oracle/Redshift/Mongo).
• Experience providing Production Operations support in a 7x24x365 environment.
