About the position

The Sr Lead Site Reliability Engineer - Network at Lumen is responsible for operating and enhancing the Network as a Service (NaaS) implementation. This role involves providing technical direction, resolving systemic issues, and ensuring the performance and reliability of network solutions across various platforms. The engineer will collaborate with multiple teams to develop automation tools, manage incidents, and document operational workflows, all while maintaining a focus on production readiness and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for network automation platform applications and services.
  • Collaborate in the development of new tools and utilities to improve support processes and efficiency.
  • Ensure applications/services are continuously monitored and running effectively.
  • Automate deployment pipelines (CI/CD) and infrastructure provisioning.
  • Manage incidents proactively, investigating and resolving service outages.
  • Lead blameless retrospectives after incidents to analyze and prevent future occurrences.
  • Document knowledge bases and operational workflows for best practices.
  • Coach and mentor team members on business processes and workflows.
  • Manage multiple initiatives in parallel while maintaining ownership of key responsibilities.
  • Influence the work of others to drive production readiness and operationalization of services.
  • Estimate task completion times and ensure timely delivery of work.
  • Scale solutions to meet enhanced requirements for growth and optimization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of related experience in software development, systems engineering, and/or networking.
  • Strong understanding of network technologies including Internet, Ethernet, IPVPN, Edge Compute, and Optical transport.
  • Strong Layer 2 knowledge of Ethernet switching equipment and architectures.
  • Working level experience with protocols such as BGP, IS-IS, MPLS, BFD, LLDP, RPKI, BMP.
  • Strong understanding of Ansible, Python, and other technologies used in network automation.
  • Knowledge of asynchronous programming concepts and distributed systems design.
  • Experience with source code repositories and CI/CD practices.
  • Familiarity with zero downtime deployment strategies and high availability architectures.
