About the position

The Sr Lead Site Reliability Engineer - Network at Lumen is responsible for operating and enhancing the Network as a Service (NaaS) implementation. This role involves providing technical direction, resolving systemic issues, and ensuring the performance and reliability of network solutions across various platforms. The engineer will collaborate with operations and development teams to automate processes, manage incidents, and improve overall service efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for network automation platform applications and services.
  • Collaborate in the development of new tools and utilities to enhance support processes.
  • Ensure continuous monitoring and alerting of applications/services for effective management.
  • Automate deployment pipelines and infrastructure provisioning for seamless performance.
  • Manage incidents proactively, investigating and resolving service outages.
  • Lead blameless retrospectives to analyze incidents and implement improvements.
  • Document knowledge bases and operational workflows for best practices.
  • Coach and mentor team members on business processes and workflows.
  • Manage multiple initiatives while maintaining ownership of key responsibilities.
  • Influence production readiness and operationalization of system components.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in software development, systems engineering, or networking.
  • Strong network skills with a background in network architecture/engineering/operations.
  • In-depth knowledge of network technologies including Internet, Ethernet, IPVPN, Edge Compute, and Optical transport.
  • Strong Layer 2 knowledge of Ethernet switching equipment and architectures.
  • Experience with protocols such as BGP, IS-IS, MPLS, BFD, LLDP, RPKI, BMP.
  • Proficiency in Ansible, Python, or other network automation technologies.
  • Understanding of asynchronous programming and distributed systems design.
  • Familiarity with source code repositories and CI/CD practices.
  • Knowledge of zero downtime deployment strategies and high availability architectures.
