About the position

The Sr. Load Balancer Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting the HHS HRSA customer by architecting, engineering, testing, and implementing a global Cloud SASE Load Balancing solution using Akamai SASE load balancing services. This position involves migrating applications from on-premise Citrix NetScalers to a new cloud-based solution, ensuring compliance with security standards, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals. The role requires hands-on technical expertise and the ability to mentor junior engineers while providing training and support to the customer.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, engineer, test, and implement a global Cloud SASE Load Balancing solution using Akamai SASE load balancing services.
  • Migrate publicly accessible applications from on-premise Citrix NetScalers to the new Cloud SASE Load Balancing solution with OKTA Single-Sign-On (SSO).
  • Work with a cross-functional team to integrate firewalls, NAT, Azure Load Balancers, and TIC 3.0 cloud infrastructure with the new solution.
  • Perform assessment and planning activities for migrating NetScaler VIPs to a SASE traffic management solution.
  • Develop, document, and present a comprehensive migration strategy, including timelines, resources, and risk management plans.
  • Conduct a limited pilot of the entire solution using a test application to demonstrate required changes and build out the technical implementation plan.
  • Ensure routing of traffic between the Cloud SASE load balancing solution and backend services meets compliance requirements.
  • Provide Cloud SASE Load Balancer architecture and network flow diagrams illustrating end-to-end communication.
  • Work with the security team to update the GSS System Security Plan for all controls that are customer configurable for Cloud SASE Load Balancer.
  • Develop logging requirements for the Cloud SASE Load Balancer solution and assist in building a customer automated chargeback model.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure all migration activities are communicated and documented properly.
  • Develop and adhere to standard operating procedures for production use.
  • Mentor and support a team of engineers in provisioning/configuring the Cloud SASE Load Balancer solution.
  • Provide training to the government and their successors on the migration process and operational use of the solution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related STEM field.
  • 10+ years of experience in Networking.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Citrix NetScalers and Akamai SASE Load Balancers.
  • 6+ years of experience in large-scale enterprise organizations.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust and pass a thorough government background screening process.
  • Ability to meet with the customer onsite a few times a month in the Rockville, MD area.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint, Confluence, ServiceNow, Trello, JIRA, and MS Teams.
  • Experience with SCRUM and Kanban Agile Methodologies.
  • Experience with any HHS agencies or entities.
  • Strong technical skills and analytic abilities, with experience in system security analysis and risk management.
  • Experience in translating systems and applications into test plans and performing hands-on testing.
  • Experience communicating and presenting to leadership and decision makers.
  • Broad knowledge of load balancing best practices, policies, and guidance.
