About the position

The Sr. Machine Design and Automation Engineer will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing flexible automated systems tailored for assembly processes. This position requires a deep understanding of both mechanical and electrical engineering principles, as the engineer will be responsible for creating assembly fixtures and tools that support both new and existing manufacturing efforts. Collaboration is key, as the engineer will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to identify automation opportunities and develop solutions that meet project needs. In addition to designing new systems, the engineer will also support existing automation and tooling, actively seeking out improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. A critical aspect of this role involves reviewing product development requirements to ensure compatibility with processing methods, which will help in determining costs and schedules. The engineer must ensure that machine requirements are clearly specified and documented, with a strong emphasis on managing all critical process controls. Safety and ergonomics will be prioritized in all designs to ensure a safe working environment. The engineer will also assist in writing and executing equipment specifications and Installation Qualification protocols, supporting all validation activities. A key responsibility will be interfacing with the machine shop to ensure that design intent is met, while also proposing new fabrication methods to address unmet needs. This role is essential for driving innovation and efficiency in the manufacturing process, ensuring that the company remains competitive in the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement flexible automated systems for use in assembly processes.
  • Design assembly fixtures and tools to support new and existing manufacturing efforts.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to determine automation opportunities and solutions for project needs.
  • Support existing automation and tooling as well as identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Recommend and implement improvements, modifications or additions to document work.
  • Review product development requirements for compatibility with processing methods to determine costs and schedules.
  • Ensure machine requirements are specified, documented and all critical process controls are managed.
  • Prioritize safety and ergonomics in designs.
  • Assist in writing and execution of equipment specifications and Installation Qualification protocols as well as supporting all validation activities.
  • Interface with machine shop to ensure design intent is met and propose new fabrication methods for unmet needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a relevant technical field required.
  • 7-9 years of design related experience using 3D CAD software.
  • Proficient with using 3-D modeling software (SolidWorks experience a plus).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with PLC and HMI setup including Allen Bradley, Omron and other processors.
  • Proficient with using electrical drawing software (DraftSight/AutoCAD Preferred).
  • Arc flash and LOTO training.
