About the position

As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer in the Monetization Engineering team at Pinterest, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our machine learning technology stack within Ads. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and execute a vision that connects the aspirations of our users, known as Pinners, with the products offered by our partners. This position offers a unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology, utilizing the latest advances in deep learning and machine learning to personalize the Pinterest experience for over 500 million users worldwide. In this role, you will collaborate closely with various teams across Pinterest to experiment with and enhance machine learning models for different product surfaces, including Homefeed, Ads, Growth, Shopping, and Search. You will leverage data-driven methods and the unique properties of our data to improve candidate retrieval, ensuring that our recommendations are relevant and engaging. The environment is high-impact, allowing for quick experimentation and product launches, which means you will need to stay updated with industry trends in recommendation systems and utilize large language models (LLMs) to enhance content understanding. This position is designed for someone who is passionate about applied machine learning and is eager to contribute to the Pinterest product. You will have hands-on access to an incredible vault of data, enabling you to build large-scale recommendation systems in innovative ways that are not commonly found in other organizations. Responsibilities

  • Build cutting edge technology using the latest advances in deep learning and machine learning to personalize Pinterest.
  • Partner closely with teams across Pinterest to experiment and improve ML models for various product surfaces (Homefeed, Ads, Growth, Shopping, and Search).
  • Use data driven methods and leverage the unique properties of our data to improve candidates retrieval.
  • Work in a high-impact environment with quick experimentation and product launches.
  • Keep up with industry trends in recommendation systems.
  • Leverage LLMs to enhance content understanding.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of industry experience applying machine learning methods (e.g., user modeling, personalization, recommender systems, search, ranking, natural language processing, reinforcement learning, and graph representation learning).
  • Degree in computer science, statistics, or related field.
  • End-to-end hands-on experience with building data processing pipelines, large scale machine learning systems, and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop/Spark).
  • Practical knowledge of large scale recommender systems, or modern ads ranking, retrieval, targeting, marketplace systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. or PhD in Machine Learning or related areas.
  • Publications at top ML conferences.
  • Expertise in scalable realtime systems that process stream data.
  • Passion for applied ML and the Pinterest product.
  • Background in computational advertising.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $141,990 — $292,128 USD, eligible for equity.
