About the position

The Sr. Manager, Accounting, under the leadership of the Director, Accounting, is responsible for managing the overall accounting function for Gulf States Toyota (GST). This role involves leading the GST Accounting team to ensure compliance with company accounting policies and procedures, as well as developing and implementing formal internal controls. The Sr. Manager will also be tasked with implementing new accounting standards as required and supporting the implementation and maintenance of IT systems, primarily focusing on SAP upgrades and enhancements to ensure accurate books and records. Additionally, the Sr. Manager will work within and enhance cross-functional teams, ensuring effective internal communications within GST and across affiliated Friedkin companies. In this position, the Sr. Manager will establish and maintain accounting principles, practices, and procedures in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), cost accounting methodologies, and industry practices. Responsibilities include maintaining and administering accounting records, serving as the functional lead for technical accounting questions, and overseeing the maintenance and analysis of leases. The Sr. Manager will also coordinate with the corporate accounting team on new general ledger data requests and serve as the business lead for the Record to Report (RTR) process, interfacing with technical resources and prioritizing SAP issue remediation and system enhancements. The role requires leading monthly internal balance sheet reviews and quarterly reviews with TFG Accounting and Business Planning Teams, preparing standard recurring internal financial reporting and analyses, and supporting internal and external audits. The Sr. Manager will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with data privacy practices and policies, and will carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, training, and appraising performance of employees.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the overall GST accounting function and lead the GST Accounting team.
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement formal internal controls.
  • Implement new accounting standards as required.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of IT systems, primarily SAP upgrades and enhancements.
  • Establish and maintain accounting principles, practices, and procedures in accordance with GAAP.
  • Maintain and administer accounting records, including the chart of accounts and general ledger.
  • Serve as the functional lead for all technical accounting questions.
  • Maintain and analyze leases in Lease Controller for assigned entities.
  • Maintain the integrity of GL master data, including updates within OneStream and SAP.
  • Coordinate with TFG corporate accounting team on new GL data requests.
  • Serve as business lead for RTR, interfacing with FI/CO technical resources.
  • Act as OneStream SME for reporting for accounting and implement required reports.
  • Assist in establishing a system of internal controls and maintain risk control matrices.
  • Lead monthly internal balance sheet reviews and quarterly reviews with TFG Accounting and Business Planning Teams.
  • Prepare standard recurring internal financial reporting and analyses and other ad-hoc reporting as required.
  • Present findings and recommendations to business leaders and managers.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Review and follow data privacy practices, policies, and guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 8-10 years of experience in accounting or a related area.
  • Master's Degree in Finance or Accounting preferred but not required.
  • CPA required.
  • 8-10 years of experience with a mix of public accounting (Big 4 preferred) and industry experience.
  • Experience with SAP or other large ERP systems.
  • Proven record of process improvement and working cross-functionally with other teams.
  • Proficient in change management and cost accounting methodologies.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and complex processes to drive outcomes.
  • Capable of developing team and providing guidance and mentorship.
  • Deep technical accounting and reporting experience with emphasis on ASC 606, ASC 842, and ASC 350/Cloud Computing Arrangements.
  • Proficient in financial planning, business acumen, negotiations, financial analysis, and operational analysis.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
