About the position

The Senior Manager / Controller position is pivotal in managing all compliance and accounting activities for the US Biologics site located in St. Louis. This role is responsible for overseeing all month-end close activities and ensuring audit compliance, while also serving as the liaison with Cognizant/Global support services in St. Louis. In this role, you will act as the accounting authority on all finance-related matters, facilitating communication between the site and Cognizant/Global support services. You will lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting close activities, manage close checklists, schedule team meetings, and approve journal entries and reconciliations performed by the Cognizant team. Additionally, you will facilitate discussions on complex financial transactions to ensure compliance with GAAP and Thermo Fisher accounting policies. Your efforts will be crucial in ensuring financial audit success by coordinating audit engagements and promoting continuous improvement of internal controls. You will also handle Hyperion mapping tables that drive management reporting and serve as the site mapping Subject Matter Expert (SME) for HFM/CMR and PLN 2.0 for each responsible site. As the site coordinator and manager for any applicable tax inquiries, you will identify and complete opportunities for operational improvements and internal control enhancements, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the finance function.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as accounting authority on all finance related matters.
  • Act as the Finance management liaison between the site and Cognizant/Global support services for St. Louis, including Record to Report (R2R), Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly and year-end accounting close activities, including leading close checklists, scheduling team meetings, and approving journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Facilitate and lead discussions on sophisticated financial transactions to ensure compliance with GAAP & Thermo Fisher accounting policies.
  • Ensure financial audit success by coordinating audit engagements and promoting continuous improvement of internal controls.
  • Handle Hyperion mapping tables that drive management reporting and act as the site mapping SME for HFM/CMR and PLN 2.0.
  • Act as site coordinator and manager for any applicable tax inquiries.
  • Identify and complete opportunities for operational improvements and internal control enhancements.

Requirements

  • BS/BA in Accounting/Finance; CPA preferred.
  • 7-10 years of overall experience in accounting or finance.
  • SAP experience required.
  • Prior experience leading month-end closing activities.
  • Public Accounting background is essential.
  • Experience with Hyperion is necessary.
  • Cost accounting experience is a plus.
  • Strong technical accounting foundation is required.
  • Experience leading SOX and financial, internal, and external audits is necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to collaborate with all levels and functions of the organization is necessary.
  • Effective at balancing multiple priorities in an autonomous environment.
  • Ability to consistently exercise sound accounting judgment is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills are essential.
