About the position

As a Senior Manager of Aircraft Base Maintenance at American Airlines, you will play a crucial role in overseeing and managing the aircraft maintenance workload, resources, and activities at maintenance stations. This position is part of the Base Maintenance Team within the Integrated Operations Division, where you will ensure the safety, compliance, dependability, reliability, and financial performance of terminal and hangar operations. You will be responsible for fostering fair and harmonious relationships with the management team, TWU, internal customers, vendors, FAA, and all non-AA business contacts. Your leadership will be pivotal in creating an environment that promotes efficiency and safety while meeting the operational demands of the airline. In this role, you will oversee daily production requirements through your subordinates, providing both short and long-term strategic direction for the department. You will coach and develop your team, offering feedback on performance and accountability, while building and maintaining relationships across all groups within Technical Operations. Your responsibilities will include ensuring that team members adhere to procedures to maximize efficiency and compliance, controlling budgets and cost standards, and leading management staff to utilize team members' skills effectively. You will also conduct regular meetings to ensure clear communication and resolution of action items, monitor maintenance manpower requirements, and ensure appropriate training and leadership development for your team. Additionally, you will be tasked with developing a LEAN Improvement Strategy, managing engine overhaul shop production flow, and executing manpower deployment and shift production requirements. This position requires a strong understanding of airline operations, budget management, and the ability to manage multiple areas of responsibility concurrently. You will be expected to engage your team in achieving critical metrics and key performance indicators, ensuring that the maintenance operations run smoothly and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the daily production requirements through subordinates.
  • Provides short and long term strategic direction for the department.
  • Coaches and develops their team by providing feedback on performance and accountability.
  • Builds, maintains, and strengthens relationships across all groups inside Technical Operations while looking for ways to remove barriers.
  • Ensures team members are following procedures in order to ensure maximum efficiency, compliance and safety.
  • Responsible for control of budgets and cost standards.
  • Leads management staff to ensure that team members' skills are utilized to the highest degree possible; leads coordination with Maintenance Training to ensure ongoing enhancement of staff and skill set.
  • Provides Supervisors regular feedback on their performance and develops the management team to create a strong leadership pipeline.
  • Conducts regular meetings with Business Reviews and Boardwalks to ensure best possible communication, identification, and resolution of action items.
  • Monitors the coordination of maintenance manpower requirements overtime and consistency with program scheduling and priorities.
  • Ensures development, review and validation of maintenance requirements to ensure appropriate training for maintenance as well as leadership development.
  • Ensures team members know, understand and are engaged in achieving critical metrics and key performance indicators.
  • Develops LEAN Improvement Strategy.
  • Manages engine overhaul shop production flow.
  • Executes manpower deployment and shift production requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience/training in Aircraft Maintenance environment.
  • 3 years experience leading other supervisory management personnel.
  • Experience in positions requiring budget understanding, resource forecasting and management and workload planning in maintenance environments.
  • 3 years Aircraft Maintenance Operations or compliance equivalent experience.
  • Experience managing, supervising and/or leading workgroups.

Nice-to-haves
