About the position

Skyworks is seeking an experienced Sr. Manager of Applications Engineering to lead a talented team of applications engineers at our San Jose Design Center. This role is pivotal in supporting customer adoption of our industry-leading products, ensuring they are effectively integrated into customer projects. The successful candidate will facilitate communication between internal teams and customers, driving collaboration and innovation in a fast-paced environment. The position requires a deep understanding of RF and phone-level design, along with troubleshooting experience and strong software skills. As a member of the Mobile Solutions Business Unit, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the company's success by leading a team that is at the forefront of technology in wireless networking. In this role, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks including interacting with both internal and external customers, designing evaluation boards and radio hardware, and verifying product compliance with device and system-level requirements. You will provide phone-level application design support to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer production robustness. Additionally, you will assist in troubleshooting and resolving device production issues, working closely with customers and internal teams to define device-level requirements and perform system trade-off analysis. Your collaboration with the quality team will support failure analysis, and you will be required to provide frequent on-site support to achieve successful design wins. A key aspect of this role will be optimizing TX/RX performance and understanding the trade-offs involved in TX and RX operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of applications engineers in the San Jose Design Center.
  • Support customer adoption of products by integrating them into customer projects.
  • Facilitate communication between internal teams and customers.
  • Design evaluation boards and radio hardware.
  • Verify and evaluate products for compliance with device and system-level requirements.
  • Provide phone-level application design support for compliance with industry standards.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolution of device production issues.
  • Work with customers and internal teams to define device-level requirements and perform system trade-off analysis.
  • Collaborate with the quality team to support failure analysis.
  • Provide frequent on-site support to achieve successful design wins.
  • Optimize TX/RX performance and understand trade-offs of TX and RX.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with 15 years of experience or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) with at least 12 years of experience in phone-level RF Systems engineering.
  • Experience managing engineers at various levels of experience.
  • Proven experience in a customer-facing role with strong communication skills.
  • Experience in wireless handset applications of TX/RX in GSM/C2K/WCDMA/LTE systems; NR experience is a plus.
  • Strong theoretical background in fundamental RF and systems design.
  • Broad experience in impedance matching on mobile phones and understanding of Tx/Rx parameters and FDD/TDD products.
  • Strong knowledge of system-level debugging using phone tools.
  • Hands-on skills for soldering and equipment handling such as Base station emulator (CMW100/500 & UXM), Network Analyzer, Signal generator, Spectrum analyzer, Noise Figure Meter.
  • Software skills in C++ and Python for PXIe and ET bench and Auto test bench setting are a plus.
  • Tier 1 customer support experience is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with RF PCB design, testing, and troubleshooting of RF circuits and phone boards.
  • Experience in RF systems analysis.
