About the position

The University of Miami is seeking a Sr. Manager, Business Operations to oversee the business and administrative functions at the Lennar Foundation Medical Center in Coral Gables, Florida. This role is pivotal in evaluating, administering, and managing all aspects of business operations, including budget management, operational efficiency, and personnel administration within the assigned department. The incumbent will be responsible for providing financial analysis and strategic planning, ensuring that budgetary controls are maintained in collaboration with various management levels. In this position, the Sr. Manager will manage, implement, coordinate, plan, and evaluate the business operations for the department/division. This includes statistical, performance, and managerial reporting, budget support, capital planning, and process improvement initiatives. The role requires developing and ensuring adherence to the department's annual budget in accordance with University guidelines and policies, participating in financial analysis and planning, and monitoring monthly budget variances to identify opportunities for performance improvement. The Sr. Manager will also advance the strategic financial plan, making recommendations to senior management on executing the department's objectives. This includes formulating department policies and guidelines to align with the University and departmental mission, overseeing the review and approval of all expenditures, and ensuring compliance with budgetary goals and programmatic initiatives. The position involves evaluating existing internal controls and approval processes, implementing human resources actions, and ensuring that employees are trained on compliance with University policies and procedures. Additionally, the role encompasses responsibilities related to the procurement of capital equipment, vendor and supply management, and productivity tracking within the Perioperative Services. The Sr. Manager will coordinate business operations with the Leadership Team, Physicians, Supply Chain, and vendors, ensuring that operational practices are consistent and effective. This position is integral to maintaining the financial health and operational efficiency of the department, contributing to the overall success of the University of Miami Health System.

Responsibilities

  • Manages, implements, coordinates, plans and evaluates the business operations for the department/division.
  • Develops and ensures adherence to the department's annual budget, in accordance with University guidelines and policies.
  • Participates in financial analysis and planning including monitoring and reporting on monthly budget variances and opportunities to improve performance.
  • Advances the strategic financial plan and makes recommendations to senior management on how to best execute the department's plan.
  • Formulates department policies and guidelines to carry out the University and department mission.
  • Oversees the review, approval and reporting of all expenditures. Reviews and approves financial transactions.
  • Creates and manages support systems to ensure availability of cost effective supplies, equipment, and management information.
  • Monitors contractual obligations and ensures consistency with departmental budget, goals, and programmatic initiatives.
  • Evaluates existing internal controls and approval processes, and makes recommendations on how to improve fiscal integrity and operational efficiency.
  • Implements department human resources actions, which may include hiring, terminations, salary etc. Recruits, trains and prepares performance reports for staff.
  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field.
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience.

  • Grounded in Materials Management/Supply Chain coordination.
  • Inventory control principles.
