About the position

Moderna is seeking a highly capable clinical development outsourcing leader to manage the outsourcing process for drug development programs. This role involves overseeing the entire outsourcing process from identifying needs to contract execution, requiring strong negotiation and contracting skills. The position is interdisciplinary and demands a qualified, organized, and motivated individual to ensure effective collaboration with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Manage outsourcing process in partnership with Clinical Development, Finance, and Legal.
  • Prepare requests for proposals for outsourced services.
  • Coordinate cross-functional review/assessment of proposals as part of overall vendor selection process.
  • Review contract documents, ensuring the use of appropriate templates and adherence to master service agreement terms as applicable.
  • Negotiate budget and contract terms, utilizing benchmarking tools and established negotiation parameters where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with legal department to ensure final contracts cover necessary scope and comply with company requirements and regulations.
  • Manage the contract execution process according to Moderna requirements.
  • Evaluate service provider delivery in accordance with the contract and minimize/negotiate change orders.
  • Ensure contracts executed by Moderna are requested and tracked within legal database.
  • Oversee appropriate contract approvals and approval documentation.
  • Prepare reports as needed and review metrics related to the contract process to improve efficiency and timeliness.
  • Support development and updating of Moderna's processes and tools, including request for proposal and contract templates.

Requirements

  • Degree in scientific, business, or legal discipline, or related field.
  • 5+ years in the pharmaceutical, life sciences or related industry, including at least 4 years of experience in outsourcing and/or contract negotiation/management.
  • Sound understanding of drug development processes for small molecules and biologics.
  • Demonstrated understanding of project management principles and contract terms and conditions.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational and facilitation skills with great attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently in a matrix environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced innovative environment.

  • Experience with various contract types and service categories.
  • Proficiency with MS Office tools such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
