About the position

The Senior Manager of Cloud Engineering at Palo Alto Networks will lead the Cloud Delivered Security Services (CDSS) team, focusing on building and running security services that prevent threats within the company's products. This role emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and the establishment of a culture that encourages calculated risks in a blameless environment. The manager will oversee the development of a software delivery and site reliability platform, ensuring high-quality product delivery and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Support and lead engineers on challenges related to scalability, reliability, performance, and efficiency of systems.
  • Understand and contribute to technical architectures, capacity plans, tooling needs, and automation plans.
  • Drive technical architecture discussions and develop lasting partnerships with various engineering teams.
  • Empower engineers to develop their careers by matching their strengths with appropriate projects.
  • Help build and enrich an inclusive work environment with diverse backgrounds.
  • Assess employee performance, address under-performance, and recognize high performance.
  • Work closely with recruiting staff to expand the team and onboard new employees.
  • Balance operational needs with long-term project allocations.
  • Drive improvement of service lifecycles from inception to delivery.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of direct management experience in a technology role.
  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with building distributed products, systems, networking, and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience of building ephemeral environments as a service.
  • Knowledge of IAC and config management frameworks such as Terraform, Pulumi, and Ansible.
  • Experience drafting and reviewing code with strong system design skills.
  • Experience with building teams and managing performance.
  • Experience developing 1st level managers and organizational strategy.
  • Strong communication and cross-collaboration skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of workflow engines such as Apache Airflow and Uber Cadence.
  • Experience with React/TypeScript, Django, and Shell scripting.
  • Working experience of building scalable CD systems with knowledge of CD tools like ArgoCD and Jenkins.
  • Experience leading large cross-functional projects in a global environment.
