About the position

The Sr. Manager, Data Engineering Location-based Services role at General Motors is focused on leading a team of engineers to develop and implement advanced geospatial and mapping solutions. Responsibilities

• Provide guidance and support to internal teams and external stakeholders as a subject matter expert on geospatial data and location-based services software product engineering.
• Lead a team of approximately 12 engineers in developing software architecture, tools, and processes for location-based services solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful delivery of location-based services projects.
• Stay updated on regulations and standards in geospatial data management, ensuring compliance in all products and initiatives.
• Educate the global team on industry trends and new technology.
• Mentor and coach team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
• Provide long-term strategic direction for the Location-based Services platform and its integration with gm.maps.
• Engage with senior directors to influence technical and product strategy for location-based and mapping services.
• Drive innovation and research in location-based services product development methodologies.

Requirements

• Advanced degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field; PhD preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in design and implementation of advanced geospatial and mapping data products.
• Proven experience in location-based services with a deep understanding of geospatial data engineering and software architecture.
• 10+ years of experience in location-based services software development (MapBox, OpenStreet Maps, ARCGIS, Postgres, Parquet, Python, C).
• 3+ years of managing high-performing teams of approximately 6 to 10 engineers.
• Strong knowledge of mapping data structures and tiling.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
