About the position

Caremark LLC, a CVS Health company, is seeking a Sr. Manager, Data Engineering to join our team in Woonsocket, RI. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and managing large-scale data structures and pipelines, as well as developing efficient Extract/Load/Transform (ETL) workflows to support various business applications. Your work will be pivotal in organizing, collecting, and standardizing data to generate insights and address reporting needs. You will write ETL processes, design database systems, and develop tools for both real-time and offline analytic processing. Collaboration with the Data Science team will be essential as you transform data and integrate algorithms and models into automated processes. You will leverage your knowledge of Hadoop architecture, HDFS commands, and query optimization to build robust data pipelines. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or similar will be necessary to create dynamic systems. Additionally, you will build data marts and data models to support Data Science and other internal customers, ensuring data from various sources adheres to quality and accessibility standards. Analyzing current IT environments to identify critical capabilities and recommending solutions will also be part of your responsibilities. You will have the opportunity to experiment with available tools and advise on new tools to provide optimal solutions that meet the requirements dictated by the model or use case. Mentoring junior team members will be an important aspect of your role, as you help to develop the next generation of data engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop large scale data structures and pipelines to organize, collect and standardize data to generate insights and address reporting needs.
  • Write ETL (Extract/Transform/Load) processes and design database systems.
  • Develop tools for real-time and offline analytic processing.
  • Collaborate with the Data Science team to transform data and integrate algorithms and models into automated processes.
  • Leverage knowledge of Hadoop architecture, HDFS commands, and optimize queries to build data pipelines.
  • Utilize programming skills in Python, Java, or similar languages to build robust data pipelines and dynamic systems.
  • Build data marts and data models to support Data Science and other internal customers.
  • Integrate data from a variety of sources and ensure adherence to data quality and accessibility standards.
  • Analyze current information technology environments to identify and assess critical capabilities and recommend solutions.
  • Experiment with available tools and advise on new tools to provide optimal solutions that meet the requirements dictated by the model/use case.
  • Mentor junior team members.

Requirements

  • Master's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Applications, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Analytics, or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the job offered or related occupation.
  • Three (3) years of experience in analyzing large data sets from multiple data sources.
  • Experience with SAS or SQL programming languages.
  • Knowledge of Hadoop and Hive.
  • Experience with Hadoop architecture or HDFS commands.
  • Familiarity with databases such as Cassandra, MongoDB, Oracle, Redis, or MPP Database like Greenplum or Teradata.
  • Experience with Spark, Kafka, Hbase, Pig, NoSQL, Airflow or Control M or any other scheduling tool.
  • Experience in designing data models and solutions for analytical and reporting use cases.
  • Experience in writing Extract/Transform/Load (ETL) processes.
  • Knowledge of the software development lifecycle.
