About the position

The Sr Manager, Data Platform Engineering at Georgia-Pacific is a leadership role responsible for guiding a team of data and software engineers in the engineering, implementation, operations, and maintenance of the GP Data Platform. This position plays a crucial role in shaping the data strategy, ensuring the robustness, automation, scalability, and cost-effectiveness of data systems that facilitate data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and guidance in a Principle Based Management culture.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software data engineers.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and execute the data engineering platform strategy in alignment with data and analytics strategic goals.
  • Design and implement scalable data pipelines, data warehousing solutions, and data frameworks.
  • Identify potential operational and financial risks and oversee the stability and reliability of the data platform.
  • Use Economic Thinking to refine FinOps reporting metrics for constant analysis and response to cost drivers and efficiency.
  • Oversee multiple data engineering projects, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and deliver data solutions.
  • Oversee and ensure best practices, coding standards, and quality processes in a DevSecOps environment.
  • Partner in establishing and enforcing data governance policies and best practices to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and security.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to implement innovative solutions.
  • Communicate effectively with business and technology partners to understand their data needs and represent the data and analytics strategy in meetings.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in data and analytics roles.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills.
  • Experience in designing and implementing data engineering solutions.
  • Knowledge of data governance and quality assurance practices.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and tools.
  • Excellent communication skills, both technical and non-technical.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms.
  • Familiarity with economic thinking and financial operations (FinOps).
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies in data processing.
