About the position

Gilead Sciences is seeking a Senior Manager for Development Sourcing within our Development Operations department, specifically focusing on Vendor Outsourcing (VO). This role is pivotal in driving operational efficiency by developing custom applications and solutions that streamline and automate VO business processes. The Senior Manager will oversee the maintenance of these applications, with a key focus on centralized intake, sourcing, contracting, PR/PO creation, and data analytics. This position will lead data optimization projects to ensure efficient data retrieval from VO integrated systems and enhance the data infrastructure while building VO data analytics tools. In this role, the Senior Manager will work in a matrix environment, collaborating regularly with senior leaders and cross-functional teams. The position aims to support VO stakeholders with new data-driven insights to achieve better business outcomes. The responsibilities include leading projects to drive operational efficiency, establishing departmental and cross-functional policies, and impacting business results by setting priorities and allocating resources. The Senior Manager will also be accountable for developing talent through ongoing performance feedback and adapting group plans to address resource and operational challenges. The technical expertise required for this position includes analyzing user requirements, designing application solutions, developing mockups and prototypes, and maintaining database schemas. The Senior Manager will optimize database queries, build APIs for web applications, and develop custom software solutions using frameworks such as Flask and WordPress. Additionally, the role involves developing visualization tools and reports, automating VO business processes, and establishing a comprehensive data infrastructure with automated processes and real-time analytics. The Senior Manager will also collaborate with VO senior leadership to align application development and data utilization strategies, identify opportunities for innovation, and leverage data to optimize utilization across integrated systems. This position requires excellent communication skills, the ability to establish relationships with internal and external teams, and a strong understanding of the clinical research process and regulatory environment. Overall, this role is critical in ensuring that Gilead continues to lead in the development of life-changing therapies and operational excellence within the Vendor Outsourcing function.

Responsibilities

  • Lead projects to drive operational efficiency for Vendor Outsourcing (VO).
  • Establish departmental and cross-functional policies and procedures.
  • Set priorities, allocate resources, and develop policies and plans that impact business results.
  • Develop talent through ongoing performance feedback.
  • Analyze user requirements and design application solutions to meet business needs.
  • Develop mockups and prototypes to provide visual representation of user requirements.
  • Maintain database schemas and optimize database queries for efficient data retrieval.
  • Build APIs for web applications and integrated systems.
  • Develop and maintain custom software solutions using frameworks such as Flask and WordPress.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience with a BA or 6+ years with an MS in a relevant discipline.
  • Expertise in the end-to-end sourcing and contracting process, including RFx, contract negotiation, and management.
  • In-depth knowledge of the clinical research process and the regulatory environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Financial acumen to review, analyze, and understand cost drivers of complex budgets.

Nice-to-haves

  • MBA or JD preferred.
  • PMP/CPSM certification or equivalent is a plus.
