As a Senior Engineering Manager in Software Engineering, you will lead and direct experienced professionals and lower-level supervisors of a group of software engineers, developing complex engineering solutions. You must possess extensive knowledge of Embedded Software Engineering and associated principles of software development and/or test. Your role will involve providing technical guidance and leadership to subordinate engineers, maintaining proper staffing levels and expertise to meet business objectives, and developing and conducting programs in accordance with the company's policies, priorities, and budget constraints. You will manage and/or develop budgets for your assigned function or department, including operating requirements, training, equipment, and material purchases. Additionally, you will provide technical oversight and assistance to other departments as required, making significant improvements in processes, systems, or products. You will manage the implementation of technical strategy and establish short-term operational plans with measurable contributions to function/area results. Your responsibilities will also include meeting functional requirements of staffing, training, talent development, engagement, retention, and overall management of the department. You will act as an advisor to subordinate supervisors or staff members to meet schedules and resolve technical or operational problems. This position requires frequent contact with equivalent level managers and customer representatives concerning projects, operational decisions, scheduling requirements, contractual clarifications, and talent development. You will work closely with Business Development, Program Management, and Business Leadership to provide input for Strategic Planning, Research and Development Planning, and Inter-Corporation Resource Sharing. Staying abreast of state-of-the-art technology and identifying disruptive or emerging technology trends for inclusion in Internal Research and Development (IRAD) or pursuit/program engineering change proposal opportunities will also be part of your role. You will enable teams to resolve issues across programs, drive innovative solutions, and solve execution and technical challenges on time and within budget.

Responsibilities

  • Develop complex engineering solutions in Embedded Software Engineering.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to subordinate engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, or related field and a minimum of 12 years of experience leading/managing technical programs, OR, 10 years with a master's degree.
  • Management and leadership background with experience leading full software lifecycle development, including executing performance appraisals, managing staffing allocation, software process leadership (CMMI), and career development.
  • Experience with Agile, Waterfall, TDD, and Model Based development.
  • Experience with DevOps and a proven track record building a CI/CD pipeline.
  • Experience with SW Reference Architectures and SW Frameworks.
  • Active Secret Clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver and sustain measurable results.
  • Experience as a Lead SW Engineer on a program or product development effort.
  • 8+ years of experience in software development (knowledge of UML, OOD, C/C++, embedded Systems, Real Time Operating Systems: VxWorks RTOS/Integrity/Embedded Linux, etc.).
  • Development of complex systems with knowledge of remote sensing applications.
  • Understanding of Configuration Management and Change Control Processes.
  • Ability to clearly and succinctly convey information and ideas, including strong executive communication and presentation skills.
  • High expectations for continuous improvement and sustained excellence for self and team members - Lean Six Sigma, data-based decision making, SW performance metrics.
  • Knowledge of EVMS, prior experience with Control Account Management (CAM).
  • Certified SCRUM Master, Product Owner, or Coach.
