About the position

The Sr. Manager, Event Production is a pivotal role within the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, responsible for overseeing all aspects of event production for a designated portfolio of events. This position requires a strategic leader who can effectively manage a team of Event Production professionals across a broad geographic area, ensuring that all events are executed successfully to meet the Society's goals. The role involves close collaboration with relationship management and volunteer engagement partners to create exceptional event experiences that also support revenue growth. The individual will manage a diverse range of events, which may include multi-market and high-level event categories, necessitating advanced proficiency and a year-round commitment. Key responsibilities include monitoring and updating event production timelines, securing venues and permits, maintaining inventory of event materials, and managing logistics with third-party vendors. The Sr. Manager will also be responsible for adhering to risk management guidelines and ensuring the safety of participants during events. In addition to event production, the role encompasses budget and project coordination, where the manager will negotiate contracts, track expenses, and ensure adherence to approved budgets. Staff management is another critical component, as the Sr. Manager will lead, coach, and develop a team of Event Production professionals, fostering their growth and ensuring successful event implementation. The position also involves engaging with volunteers, providing them with the necessary support and training to fulfill their roles effectively during events.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with relationship management and volunteer engagement teams to ensure exceptional event experiences.
  • Monitor and update event production timelines, communicating progress and identifying potential challenges.
  • Secure venues, permits, and insurance for events, maintaining positive relationships with communities and vendors.
  • Maintain and track inventory of event materials and supplies, ensuring timely distribution before, during, and after events.
  • Manage local and national sponsorship fulfillment and oversee deliveries.
  • Schedule and facilitate event production meetings with appropriate staff.
  • Create and communicate event staff assignments in conjunction with development team partners.
  • Manage relationships with third-party logistics companies for event logistics.
  • Follow risk management guidelines related to event execution, ensuring participant safety.
  • Serve as an active member of the Emergency Response team, acting as vendor contact for changes or cancellations.
  • Assess, plan, and oversee event routes, developing contingencies as needed.
  • Ensure timely submission of logistical event information for TeamRaisers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Hospitality, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of related experience, with some previous leadership/supervisory experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated planning and implementation experience to drive measurable results in event execution.
  • Experience managing multiple projects with competing priorities.
  • Strong initiative and ability to motivate staff and volunteers from a distance.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Results-driven with strong attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with logistical mapping and event diagram software such as Ride with GPS or Smartdraw.
  • Non-profit experience or equivalent is preferred.
