About the position

The Corporate Financial Operations Manager at American Water is responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial operations, including planning, analysis, and reporting. This role serves as a strategic partner to drive growth and execute corporate strategy by providing critical financial insights to leadership while ensuring compliance with financial regulations. The position involves collaboration with various leaders within the company to analyze data and support informed decision-making at the executive level.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of Corporate financial operations including planning, analysis, and reporting processes.
  • Lead the business planning and reforecasting process, financial and management reporting activities.
  • Manage internal controls, financial analysis, and modeling.
  • Translate complex financial information to various audiences including State and Executive Leadership.
  • Oversee the annual budgeting process and long-term planning, including preparation and consolidation of business plans and forecasts.
  • Lead monthly and annual financial reporting activities, including variance commentary and overall financial performance analysis.
  • Validate the performance of the company's annual performance plan and long-term performance plan.
  • Analyze complex financial information and reports to provide accurate and timely financial recommendations.
  • Review and support quarterly and annual 10-Q, 10-K work efforts and Investor Relation preparation.
  • Support C-Level interaction with external audiences including presentation preparation and related analysis.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and execute strategic financial plans.
  • Build and manage a strong team of finance professionals, including coaching and succession planning.
  • Support Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance controls assigned to the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, business or a closely related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7 years of accounting/financial related experience required.
  • Strong leadership, relationship building, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and delegate as needed.
  • Advanced knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Advanced MS Excel and PowerPoint skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree or CPA, CMA or CFA preferred.
  • 3 years supervisory experience preferred.
  • Regulated utility experience preferred.
  • SAP and Oracle Planning experience preferred.
